Male to male extensions join two female G1/4 ports, which is what you need when a splitter, a drain valve or a block terminal ends up further from its neighbor than either part allows for.

Rotary versions cost a little more and are worth it wherever the fitting has to be tightened in place. A fixed extension has to end up at the right angle when it is torqued down, and it frequently does not.
