Alphacool Core Distroplate 240 XS D5/DDC (14672)

The Alphacool Core Distroplate 240 XS D5/DDC is a 240 x 73 x 59.6 mm distro plate with a 147ml reservoir that takes either a VPP/D5 or a DDC pump. No pump is in the box, so the plate needs one of the two before it can run. Unlike previous Core Distro Plates it features a slimmer, more space-saving design.

Core Design

Alphacool calls the Core Distro Plate 240 XS an absolute must-have for any custom water cooling setup. With its signature Core design, Alphacool says, it's not only a visual highlight but also a functional masterpiece. The plate simplifies the planning and installation of complex cooling loops, and Alphacool sees its compact design as making it ideal for custom water cooling configurations.

Pump mount

Thanks to a redesigned pump mount, this distro plate supports both pump formats, which Alphacool describes as offering even greater flexibility for custom loop configurations. For a D5 or VPP pump the manual's steps are: insert the O-ring, then tighten the screws with 1.5Nm. A DDC pump keeps its own O-ring, and its screws are tightened to the same torque.

Connections

The plate is made of what Alphacool calls high-quality acrylic and is fitted with chrome-plated G1/4 brass connections. These have been recessed and deliberately not screwed in, to minimize the risk of cracks and leaks while increasing stability. According to Alphacool this ensures absolute leak proofing of each connector and allows for the clean and functional look of its Core Design series. The arrangement of the connections is designed to optimize tube routing and also to provide an attractive appearance. The manual marks the direction: OUT leads from the plate to the component, IN comes back from it.

Lighting

The look is complemented by integrated aRGB lighting, which Alphacool says provides impressive visual effects. It can be controlled either via a digital aRGB header on the mainboard or optionally via Alphacool's Aurora Eiscontrol aRGB controller (article no.: 15360).

Mounting and draining

Installation is carried out using the included 90° universal mounting bracket, which enables easy and flexible positioning within the case. The manual also shows it mounted on 240mm, 280mm, 360mm and 420mm radiators. Additional drain ports located on the side and bottom allow for quick and clean draining.

What the loop needs

The loop needs a pump for the plate, either one of our D5 pumps or one of our DDC pumps, and the four M4x20 pump screws for it are in the box. Of the 11 G1/4 ports only the ones your loop runs through are used, and five G1/4 plugs are in the box for ports you leave unused.

Filling and venting

After filling with a suitable coolant, the manual says to sway the plate back and forth a little and open a suitable port so trapped air can escape. Top up, run the pump briefly, switch it off and repeat until the air is out.

Notes

• Use only clear, transparent water cooling fluids. Alphacool warns that the particles and additives in pastel liquids can clog and permanently damage radiators, pumps, coolers and hoses, which can void the manufacturer's warranty.
