The problem it solves
Alphacool presents the Eiszapfen PRO HardTube fittings as the next step in development for the familiar Eiszapfen. In that development the company concentrated on a specific problem: PETG hard tubes deforming at high temperatures. By Alphacool's figure, PETG can start to deform at as little as 60 °C. Although such a temperature is usually rarely reached, it can still occur. These fittings prevent the problem from the outset and hold the tubes in position.
How it holds the tube
The deformation is prevented by the new nylon inserts inside, a design which stabilizes the hard tubes. Furthermore, an O-ring and a compression seal are still part of the fitting. The contact area here, however, spreads over a much larger surface than with normal O-rings, which Alphacool says provides a better grip. With the insert and the compression seal, the tube is strengthened from the inside and the outside.
Alphacool states that the HardTube does not slip even under heavy loads. It has tested the tensile strength of up to 8 kg, so there is no need to worry about loose tubing.
What a run needs
A tube run takes two fittings, one at each end. Each fitting screws into a G1/4 port and takes PETG, acrylic, brass and glass tubes; tubes to match are in our 16mm hard tubing section.
