An original Xylem D5 PWM at its heart
Watercool says the pump combines legendary reliability with modern technology and impressive lighting, and that it was designed for discerning water cooling enthusiasts. At the heart of the HEATKILLER D5 aRGB sits an original Xylem Lowara D5 PWM pump, a mechanism that has proven itself for decades. In Watercool's words it is robust, powerful and quiet: its patented design ensures maximum service life, a high flow rate and whisper-quiet operation.
Thanks to the shaftless spherical motor principle there is no bearing play, and therefore no increasing operating noise over time. The self-adjusting wet rotor bearing is lubricated and cooled directly by the coolant. After extended periods of inactivity the pump still starts reliably. Furthermore, the efficient permanent magnet technology ensures high efficiency.
WPI: one cable, all functions
The Watercool Pump Interface (WPI) is the central interface for connecting HEATKILLER D5 pumps. This single cable transmits the supply voltages as well as the PWM, RPM and aRGB signals, which results in compact and elegant cable management. Watercool calls it ideal in combination with the Passive Control for the MO-RA IV series; the connection cable for passive control (WPI) is available as an option.
No WPI controller? The pump can also be connected to a conventional motherboard with the included cable, allowing speed control and the operation of the aRGB LEDs from the board.
Shiny aRGB effects, uniform lighting
Sixteen individually controllable aRGB LEDs are combined with genuine PLEXIGLAS GS, an acrylic material that distributes the light homogeneously and prevents distracting hotspots. Together they create impressive lighting effects. Watercool promises uniform lighting in perfection, and the result is an elegant, even illumination that can be customized and integrates seamlessly into any aRGB setup.
What the loop needs
The pump is supplied without any accessories: a suitable pump top or a reservoir with a D5 option is required for operation. Watercool says it is perfectly matched to the HEATKILLER TUBE and the MO-RA IV TANK. Suitable choices are, e.g., the HEATKILLER® D5-TOP as well as the HEATKILLER Tube 100 D5 or the HEATKILLER Tank 200 D5. Other tops are in our D5 pump tops category. The electrical connection is conveniently made via the Watercool Pump Interface, or directly via the motherboard using the included cable.

Notes
- If the pump speed and the aRGB lighting run on different controllers, connect both to the same ground, for example by powering both from the same power supply. Ground differences can upset the PWM signal and the lighting.
- The pump can be used in every mounting orientation except with the rotor facing downward. The rotor is not fixed to the axle and could shift and rub against the housing.
- The coolant lubricates the bearing, so never run the pump dry.
- Watercool does not recommend water additives with suspended particles; they can clog the pump or wear the bearing.
- Watercool recommends demineralized or deionized (distilled) water with a suitable corrosion inhibitor as coolant.
