The Alphacool Eiszapfen Filter G1/4 Inner Thread - Plexi is an inline filter for a water cooling loop with a G1/4 inner thread on each end, one filter per pack. The clear body is acrylic and measures 20 x 25 mm.

What it protects

Alphacool calls this filter ideal for water cooling systems with microstructure coolers. It prevents those coolers from becoming clogged, which matters since these coolers are often difficult to clean manually due to their small size.

Flow rate

Alphacool's Eiszapfen series is, in its maker's words, forward-looking, and distinguishes itself through its exceptional design and high flow rate. The filter is constructed so that resistance through the mesh, the filter screen, is minimal. Alphacool goes further and says there is no resistance, the opposite, in fact. It puts the flow rate of the filter around 50% higher than a tube with an 8 mm inner diameter, and around 30% higher than a tube with a 10 mm inner diameter. This makes it Alphacool's choice for high-flow systems. Once the filter is more than 30% to 50% clogged, depending on the inner tube diameter, a reduction in flow rate does kick in, and only then.

What the loop needs

Both ends are G1/4 inner threads, so the filter takes two fittings with a G1/4 outer thread, one on each side. Alphacool makes it in three colors: chrome, deep black and acrylic.

• Use only clear, transparent water cooling fluids. Alphacool warns that the particles and additives in pastel liquids can clog and permanently damage radiators, pumps, coolers and hoses, which can void the manufacturer's warranty.
