Alphacool Watercooling Filter - Plexi (18190)

This Alphacool inline water filter is made from Plexi and is for watercooling systems with micro-structure cooling plates. It effectively prevents clogging of the micro-structure inside of the waterblocks, and the clear casing shows at a glance if it is clogged.

Why filter the loop

Alphacool calls the filter ideal for these systems. A filter is becoming more and more important, as the fine structures in today's waterblocks can sometimes barely be cleaned by hand.

Advantages

This design offers multiple advantages. Checking the filter needs no tools, because you look through the Plexi. The filter can be disassembled, and the filter unit itself can easily be cleaned with e.g. a brush. If needed, the mesh can also be ordered by itself at an affordable price (see Item No. 94060).

Flow resistance

The filter is designed to barely influence the flow resistance of the whole system. Its mesh has an approximately 50% larger surface than tubing with 8mm inner diameter, and approximately 30% larger than tubing with 10mm inner diameter. Hence Alphacool rates it for high-flow systems: a reduction in diameter is only happening if 50% respectively 30% of the filter are clogged up.

Reading the inlet

The inlet is the conical side, and it allows a view of the water hitting the filter. This is where the effect becomes especially visible, making a reduction of flow easy to see as the jet widens. The inlet is also designed so that the water alone does not push the air out. Only if the flow is reduced will the air be pushed out, giving a clear sign that it is time to clear the filter.
