Alphacool Apex 2 Thermal Grease - 2g (14755)

The Alphacool Apex 2 Thermal Grease - 2g is a thermal paste for CPUs and GPUs with a thermal conductivity of 17.3 W/mK, sold as a 2g kit with application tools. It is electrically non-conductive and is the next-generation successor to Alphacool's Apex thermal paste.

Formulation

Apex 2 was developed in close collaboration with Halnziye, a thermal interface material specialist. It features an entirely redesigned formulation rather than a simple revision of the original Apex compound. Alphacool describes this next generation of its high-performance thermal compound as completely reformulated to deliver improved thermal performance for modern CPUs and GPUs. Along with the 17.3 W/mK it names an extremely low thermal resistance, so the paste efficiently transfers heat from the processor or GPU into the cooling solution.

Features

The paste fills microscopic imperfections between the heat source and the contact surface of the cooler, reducing insulating air gaps and improving thermal transfer. According to Alphacool the new formulation provides improved CPU cooling performance while offering particularly strong results at GPU hotspots. That is what makes it well suited for both processor coolers and full-cover GPU water blocks, and particularly effective for managing GPU hotspot temperatures. Despite its high thermal performance the paste is electrically non-conductive, making it suitable for use around sensitive electronic components. The operating temperature range runs from -20 °C to 130 °C.

Where it is used

Apex 2 was developed for demanding cooling applications. Alphacool calls it ideal for gaming systems, overclocking, workstations, servers and high-performance custom water cooling builds.

Applying it

An included alcohol cleaning wipe helps prepare the CPU, GPU or cooler surface before installation. The optimized consistency allows the paste to be spread into a controlled, thin and even layer. The application kit includes both a putty tool and a spreading card for applying a consistent layer across the contact surface. For easier application, the paste can be warmed briefly by hand before use to make it more pliable.
