Details
A CPU water block for Intel LGA 1150, 1151, 1155, 1156, 1200, 1700 and 1851, with a clear acrylic top and a bare copper base: the BASIC version of the HEATKILLER IV. The Watercool HEATKILLER® IV BASIC (Intel LGA 1X00) ACRYLIC CLEAN mounts with the tool-less Easy-Mount system and takes fittings up to 19 mm wide.

The HEATKILLER IV series
Watercool calls its HEATKILLER® series CPU water blocks some of the best performing and most popular CPU blocks on the market. The range goes back to its introduction in 2001, and Watercool has continuously enhanced and improved it since. It calls the HEATKILLER® IV the most comprehensive and recent iteration of the franchise. What changed:
- Cooling performance up to 3 °C better compared to the predecessor
- A better flow rate and less clogging, from a bigger jet plate nozzle and a new channel layout
- The tool-less Easy-Mount-System
- Room for extra large fittings, thanks to a port distance of 25 mm
New cooling engine and optimized flow paths
Through all developments the cooling engine is where the block took its biggest evolutionary step. Watercool gave the cold plate significantly thinner fins, which results in a larger surface and better heat dissipation. At the same time it made sure that the flow rate isn't impacted by this. The separate jet plate design was dropped, but Watercool integrated its mechanics directly into the top. Watercool says this new technology improves performance, flow rate and reliability.
Easy-Mount and manufacturing
Watercool developed the Easy-Mount system, which it calls revolutionary, to simplify the installation process. After the first installation the block can be installed and uninstalled again completely tool-less. The system also provides a fixed stop of the installation bolts, so a faulty installation is almost impossible. The CPU maker's specifications set the contact pressure; tighten the studs and knurled nuts of the included mounting material evenly and crosswise.
In Watercool's view the design should also be worthy of a WATERCOOL product. In its words, only the highest quality raw materials combined with the most cutting edge, premium manufacturing technologies make a true HEATKILLER IV. As a final touch on the design it took care of customers' requests, which is why the block is compatible with fittings of up to 19 mm width.
All HEATKILLER components are manufactured on Watercool's own CNC machines at the WATERCOOL headquarters in Waren, Germany. Many steps of the process are manual labor, and each product is finished under the dual control principle, which Watercool calls truly "Made in Germany".
What the build needs
The block has two G1/4 ports, so it takes two fittings. On socket LGA1700 Watercool writes that "we strongly recommend one of the available backplates" because of the socket problems (bending): the HEATKILLER IV Backplate INTEL 1700 (10014) or the HEATKILLER LGA1700 HEAVY Backplate (10016). The same block with a nickel-plated copper base and a higher temperature rating is the HEATKILLER IV PRO (Intel LGA 1X00) ACRYLIC CLEAN. More blocks for these sockets are in our Intel CPU blocks category.
