The HEATKILLER IV series
Watercool calls its HEATKILLER® series CPU water blocks some of the best performing and most popular CPU blocks on the market. The series dates from its introduction in 2001, and Watercool has continuously enhanced and improved it since. It names the HEATKILLER® IV the most comprehensive and recent iteration of the franchise, and places this BASIC block with its acetal top in the mid-range. What changed against the predecessor:
- Up to 3 °C better cooling performance compared to its predecessor
- Better flow rate and less clogging, thanks to a bigger jet plate nozzle and channel layout
- Tool-less Easy-Mount-System
- Compatible with extra large fittings thanks to a 25 mm port distance
New cooling engine and optimized flow paths
Through all developments, the cooling engine is where the series took its biggest evolutionary step. Watercool gave the cold plate significantly thinner fins, which results in a larger surface and better heat dissipation, and made sure at the same time that the flow rate isn't impacted by this. The separate jet plate design was dropped, but its mechanics were integrated directly into the top. Watercool says this new technology improves performance, flow rate and reliability.
Easy-Mount and manufacturing
To simplify the installation process, Watercool developed what it calls the revolutionary Easy-Mount system. After the first installation, the block can be installed and uninstalled completely tool-less. The system also provides a fixed stop of the installation bolts, which makes a faulty installation almost impossible. Tighten the studs and knurled nuts of the included mounting material evenly and crosswise, and the contact pressure follows the CPU maker's specifications.
In Watercool's words the design should also be worthy of a WATERCOOL product. It says only the highest quality raw materials, combined with the most cutting edge, premium manufacturing technologies, make a true HEATKILLER IV. As a final touch on the design, it took care of customers' requests and made the block compatible with fittings of up to 19 mm width.
All HEATKILLER components are manufactured on Watercool's own CNC machines at the WATERCOOL headquarters in Waren, Germany. Many steps of the process are manual labor, and each product is finished under the dual control principle: truly "Made in Germany".
What the loop and an LGA1700 build need
The block has two G1/4 ports, so it takes two fittings. For mounting on the socket LGA1700 Watercool strongly recommends one of the available backplates, because of the socket problems (bending): the HEATKILLER IV Backplate INTEL 1700 (10014) or the HEATKILLER LGA1700 HEAVY Backplate (10016). One step up in the range is the PRO version of this block, the HEATKILLER IV PRO (Intel LGA 1X00) ACETAL CLEAN, whose bottom plate is nickel-plated copper. More blocks we stock for these sockets are in our Intel CPU blocks category.
