The cuplex kryos NEXT series
Aquacomputer says the cuplex kryos NEXT marks a new milestone in CPU water block development. In its words, every detail has been analyzed, optimized and tested to achieve perfection in cooling performance, installation procedure and product features. The result, in Aquacomputer's view, is not just a CPU water block with outstanding performance. It is a product series, with various models differing in color and functionality.
Aquacomputer calls the VARIO models the first CPU water blocks globally to incorporate a real-time adjustable base. Never before, it says, has it been possible to adjust a CPU block's geometry to perfectly fit the CPU while the PC is in operation. This block belongs to the models with the VISION module, which are equipped with modern electronics.
VISION: integrated electronics
Inside the VISION variants sit a microcontroller board and an OLED display. Aquacomputer counts the high resolution display, the integrated water temperature sensor and the USB interface as just three of the features. The full list:
- water temperature sensor, integrated in the water block
- connector for a flow sensor, which can alternatively be used as an alarm output
- USB interface
- aquabus interface for communication with an aquaero 5 or 6
- customizable display output
- various hardware data from the aquasuite software can be displayed, for example the current CPU load
Only the acrylic glass variants of the cuplex kryos NEXT with VISION are additionally equipped with an RGB LED, controlled depending on temperature or via USB. This block has a nickel plated brass top, so it has no LED.
There is limited space for cables: a maximum of two can be threaded into the water block. The following combinations are possible:
- USB and aquabus
- USB and flow sensor or alarm output
- aquabus and flow sensor or alarm output
Base part with micro structure
The base part carries an extremely fine micro structure with a structural width lower than 200 µm. The coolant is injected centrally through a slot-shaped nozzle, and from there it runs to both sides of the structure. Depending on model the base itself is manufactured from copper, nickel plated copper or .925 sterling silver; on this block it is nickel plated copper.
Retention system
The retention system consists of stainless steel plates 2.5 mm thick, equipped with nickel plated spring cups. Springs and knurled screws secure the water block on the motherboard, and the installed system has a very clean look. All retention system versions feature a mechanical stop for optimum clamping force and even force distribution. The knurled screws can be installed by hand, and a hexagon socket wrench can additionally be used for easy installation.
Socket 2011/2066 motherboards already include a back plate as part of the CPU socket, therefore no additional back plate is required for this block. Only the water blocks for socket 115x or AM3 include a steel back plate, with silicone insulation to stabilize the CPU region of the motherboard.
Thermal compound
Every cuplex kryos NEXT ships with thermal compound for optimum performance, and Aquacomputer calls it outstanding. A syringe with 0.5 grams of Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut is included, complete with a plastic spatula. The compound has a high thermal conductivity. Due to its low viscosity it spreads out thin and evenly between CPU and water block, and the amount is sufficient for approximately five applications.
Color variants
Across the series, the top part of the water block is available in various materials and coatings:
- Acetal black: shiny black high-tech plastic
- Acrylic glass: a transparent body suitable for illumination
- Copper: reddish gloss
- Nickel plated brass: bright metallic gloss
- PVD plated brass: a high quality multi layer coating with a dark metallic gloss
This block is the nickel/nickel material combination: the top part is nickel plated brass and the base is nickel plated copper. Its nickel plated brass top is the variant with the bright metallic gloss.
Installation
Remove the old CPU cooler first and, if necessary, clean thermal grease residues off the CPU surface with benzine. Place a small drop of the supplied grease, about 4 mm (0.15 inch) across, centrally on the CPU, or spread a thin layer with the plastic spatula.
Set the block on the CPU in the orientation shown in the manual and place one spring into each recess. Put a knurled screw through each spring into the anchor threads of the CPU socket, only one or two revolutions at first. Then fasten the four screws alternately, a fraction of a revolution at a time, until all are fully fastened.
What the loop needs
The block has two G1/4 connection threads, so it takes two fittings from our fittings section. The coolant must be supplied through the central fitting for best cooling performance, because a reversed flow direction significantly decreases it. For corrosion inhibition, Aquacomputer requires Double Protect Ultra as the coolant.
What you need to connect it
No cables are in the box. The USB link to the PC uses the internal USB connection cable for VISION (53215). For an aquaero 5 or 6, such as the aquaero 6 LT, use the aquabus cable for VISION (53214). A flow sensor connects with the flow sensor cable for VISION (53212), and the alarm output reaches the mainboard power button through the alarm output cable (53216). More parts are among our VISION CPU accessories.
aquasuite software
Activating this product gives you the current aquasuite version, including an upgrade service for at least six (6) months. Once the service expires, you may use and reinstall the latest version available during the upgrade period without a time limit. The update service can optionally be extended or renewed at any time for a fee. Installation and activation of the aquasuite software require an internet connection, and Aquacomputer's website has further information on both.
Notes
- Put the water cooling system into operation first with no other PC components connected to the mains supply, and check the block and the fittings for leakages.
- A component that has been in contact with coolant goes into operation only when it is completely dry again.
- Operate the PC only with the block correctly mounted and connected to a water cooling system of adequate cooling performance.
In the box
- 1x Water block
- 1x Mounting materials (screws, springs, etc.)
- 1x Thermal compound Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, approx. 0.5 grams in syringe
- 1x Plastic spatula
- 1x Instruction manual
The manual covers mounting on every socket, the flow direction and the approved coolant for the cuplex kryos NEXT with VISION.
