About the cuplex kryos NEXT range

Aquacomputer says the cuplex kryos NEXT represents a new milestone in the development of CPU water coolers. By its account, every detail was analyzed, optimized and tested in order to achieve perfection in three areas: cooling performance, assembly and functionality. In its words, the result sets new standards in cooling performance, and it is not just one CPU cooler. An entire model family covers a spectrum of color and equipment variants.

The VARIO models carry what Aquacomputer calls a worldwide unique feature among CPU water coolers: a base plate that can be deformed during operation. Never before, the maker says, has a CPU cooler been able to be adjusted to an optimal fit to the CPU while running. This block is not a VARIO; it belongs to the models with the VISION module, which are equipped with powerful electronics.

VISION: integrated electronics

Inside the VISION variants sit a microprocessor control and an OLED graphic display. The high-resolution display, the integrated water temperature measurement and the USB interface are just three examples from a wider range of functions. The most important features include:

  • water temperature measurement integrated in the cooler
  • a connection option for a flow sensor, or alternatively an alarm output
  • a USB interface to the PC
  • an aquabus interface for data exchange with an aquaero 5 or 6
  • configurable display pages
  • display of various hardware data through the aquasuite software, e.g. the current processor load

An additional RGB LED for lighting is integrated only in the acrylic versions of the cuplex kryos NEXT with VISION; it can be controlled depending on the temperature or via USB. This acetal block has no such LED.

Space inside the block is limited, so a maximum of two connection cables can be routed into the cooler. The possible combinations are therefore:

  • USB and aquabus
  • USB and flow measurement or alarm output
  • aquabus and flow measurement or alarm output

Base with microstructure

The base carries an extremely fine microstructure with a structure width of less than 200 µm. Coolant flows through a flat nozzle integrated in the cooler housing onto the center of the microstructure and is discharged from there in two directions. Depending on the cooler variant, the base is made of copper, nickel-plated copper or .925 sterling silver. On this one it is nickel-plated copper.

Mounting system

The mounting system consists of solid stainless steel sheets with a material thickness of 2.5 mm, and nickel-plated spring cups are pressed into them. Springs and knurled screws attach the cooler to the mainboard. Due to the spring cup and the low overall height, the holding system looks very tidy when installed.

All bracket variants have a defined stop for optimal contact pressure and even force distribution. The knurled screws can be fitted by hand, while an Allen key also allows for easy installation. All versions for socket 1851/1700 include a steel backplate with a rubber cover, which additionally stabilizes the CPU region of the mainboard.

Thermal paste

For optimal performance, each cuplex kryos NEXT comes with 0.5 grams of what Aquacomputer calls excellent thermal paste, packed in a syringe for easy use. A plastic spatula is included for application. The paste has a high thermal conductivity, and thanks to its low viscosity it is distributed thin and very well between the CPU and the water cooler during assembly. That supplied quantity is sufficient for approx. five assemblies of the cooler.

Color variants and this material combination

Across the family, the cooler housing is available in different materials and coatings:

  • Black acetal: a glossy black high-performance plastic
  • Acrylic glass: a transparent housing with lighting option
  • Copper: glossy red
  • Brass, nickel-plated: a light metallic gloss
  • Brass, PVD coated: a high-quality multi-layer coating with a dark metallic luster

Here the material combination is acetal/nickel: a black acetal housing on a nickel-plated copper cooler base.

Installation

The cooler comes mounted, and the assembly instructions in the box cover the steps below. Take the old heat sink off the CPU and, if necessary, clean thermal grease residues from the CPU surface with benzine. Put a small drop of the supplied paste, about 4 mm (0.15 inch) across, centrally on the CPU, or spread a thin layer with the plastic spatula.

Arrange the backplate and the black insulation mat below the processor socket. From the mounting kit, slide one plastic washer onto each retention bolt, then screw the bolts through the four mounting holes of the mainboard into the backplate. Set the block on the CPU in the orientation shown in the manual and slide a spring onto each bolt. Secure each spring with a knurled head screw, then tighten the four screws alternately, a fraction of a revolution at a time, until all are fully fastened.

What the loop needs

Two G1/4 connection threads mean two fittings from our fittings section. Feed the coolant through the central fitting for best cooling performance, since a reversed flow direction significantly decreases it. Aquacomputer requires Double Protect Ultra as the coolant for corrosion inhibition.

What you need to connect it

The scope of delivery has no cables. USB runs through the internal USB connection cable for VISION (53215). An aquaero 5 or 6, such as the aquaero 6 LT, connects with the aquabus cable for VISION (53214). A flow sensor uses the flow sensor cable for VISION (53212), and the alarm output reaches the mainboard power button through cable 53216.

aquasuite software

Activating this product gets you the current aquasuite software with an upgrade service for at least six (6) months. After that service expires, you may use and reinstall the latest version available during the upgrade period, without a time limit. Aquacomputer offers to extend or renew the update service at any time for a fee. Installing and activating aquasuite requires an internet connection.

Notes

  • Start the water cooling system with no other PC components on the mains supply, and check the block and the fittings for leakages first.
  • Any component that has been in contact with coolant must be completely dry before it goes into operation.

In the box

  • 1x Water block
  • 1x Mounting materials (screws, springs, etc.)
  • 1x Thermal compound Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, approx. 0.5 grams in syringe
  • 1x Plastic spatula
  • 1x Instruction manual
  • 1x Back plate

The manual covers mounting on every socket, flow direction and approved coolants for the cuplex kryos NEXT with VISION.
