Quick Overview

All reservoirs of the aqualis series are equipped with a borosilicate glass tube. In contrast to acrylic glass, which is often used for tube reservoirs, borosilicate glass is extremely hard and scratch-resistant, features superb thermal and chemical resistance and a very low thermal expansion.

Details

The Aquacomputer Aqualis PRO 880 mL | Nano Coated is an 880 ml tube reservoir with a borosilicate glass tube whose nano coating makes water roll off its inner surface. Its Delrin base has an acrylic window and room for LEDs, and it comes without a pump or pump top.

Nano coated borosilicate glass

Every reservoir of the aqualis series is equipped with a borosilicate glass tube. Tube reservoirs often use acrylic glass instead; in contrast, Aquacomputer says borosilicate glass is extremely hard and scratch-resistant. It also features superb thermal and chemical resistance and a very low thermal expansion. On the 450 ml and 880 ml variants the glass tube has an outer diameter of 75 mm and a wall thickness of 5 mm. All variants are also available with nano coating, and on this one it will cause water to roll off the inner surface of the tube.

Fountain effect or lateral return

Base and top of the reservoir are made from Delrin and connected by a stainless steel tube. That tube is what makes the fountain effect, an optical highlight that can be realized when the return line is connected to the center connector. The water then flows through the tube to the top of the reservoir, where it is ejected through eight nozzles. Aquacomputer calls this a real eye catcher in combination with illumination.

In that setup the suction line goes to one of the lateral connectors, and the supplied sealing screw closes the unused connection thread. A thin acrylic plate near to the bottom, which comes pre-installed upon delivery, reduces air ingestion to a minimum.

Alternatively, the return line can be connected to a lateral connector, so the water exits directly from the base part. For this configuration the central thread is sealed, the acrylic plate and its spacers come out (two screws), and a deflector plate is included in delivery. It is installed at the bore hole of the return line with two M3 x 8 mm screws, to effectively remove air from the water circuit. Two M3 x 8 mm screws also go into the empty threads to refasten the acrylic window.

An M6 thread in the base part makes filling easier: a small fraction of coolant can flow from the base part directly into the reservoir. If desired, the supplied headless screw seals it.

PRO and XT variants

The aqualis PRO 450/880 ml variants additionally have an acrylic window in the base part, where up to six LEDs (5 mm size) can be installed after removing the stainless steel cover (two screws). A cable duct leads to the side of the reservoir. A PRO can be upgraded with an electronic fill level sensor at a later date.

The aqualis XT 450/880 ml variants have the same acrylic window and LED mounting as the PRO variants. Additionally, the XT variants feature an electronic fill level sensor with USB and aquabus interface, a programmable alarm output and an external temperature sensor input. For monitoring and configuration, the aquasuite software can be downloaded free of charge. In addition to USB, the 4-pin aquabus interface can directly connect the fill level sensor to an aquaero 5 controller (not included in delivery).

The XT's alarm output can be configured as a rpm signal for a fan connector with fault detection (for example motherboard fan headers), or used as a switched output, for example to connect a LED. Fill level and the external temperature sensor input can each be configured to raise an alarm. The input is compatible with all Aqua Computer temperature sensors.

What the loop needs

Each connector you use takes a G1/4 fitting from our fittings section, and a separate pump from our pumps section moves the coolant. The stainless steel bracket fastens to the reservoir with two M3 x 8 mm screws, and four more M3 x 8 mm screws with nuts are supplied to mount the bracket to the PC.

Notes

  • The top comes off counter-clockwise to free the glass tube; ensure the gaskets stay aligned in their grooves and screw it back by hand with moderate force, no tools.
  • Screws in the plastic base part take light force only, so the threads are not damaged.

In the box

  • 1x Reservoir
  • Hardware and Accessories

The Installation Manual for the aqualis 450/880 ECO, PRO and XT covers disassembly, both return line setups, the LEDs and the bracket.
