Borosilicate glass tube
Every reservoir of the aqualis series is equipped with a tube of borosilicate glass. Acrylic glass is often used for tube reservoirs; in contrast, Aquacomputer says borosilicate glass is extremely hard and scratch-resistant. It also features superb thermal and chemical resistance and a very low thermal expansion. On the 450 ml and 880 ml variants the glass tube has an outer diameter of 75 mm and a wall thickness of 5 mm. Base and top are made from Delrin, and a stainless steel tube connects them.
The smaller 100 ml and 150 ml variants use a 50 mm tube held by a stainless steel rod. All variants are also available with a nano coating that will cause water to roll off the inner surface of the glass.
Fountain effect or lateral return
As an optical highlight, the reservoir can show a fountain effect. With the return line on the center connector, the water flows up through the stainless steel tube to the top of the reservoir and is ejected there through eight nozzles. The suction line goes to one of the lateral connectors, and the supplied sealing screw closes the unused connection thread. A thin acrylic plate near the bottom, which comes pre-installed upon delivery, reduces air ingestion to a minimum.
Alternatively, the return line can be connected to a lateral connector, and the water then exits directly from the base part. The central connection thread is then sealed, and the acrylic plate and its spacers come out (two screws). For this configuration the stainless steel deflector plate is included in delivery. It is installed above the return channel, at the bore hole of the return line, with two M3 x 8 mm screws, to effectively remove air from the water circuit.
An M6 thread in the base part makes the filling process easier, because a small fraction of coolant can flow from the base part directly into the reservoir. If desired, the supplied headless screw seals it.
Lighting and fill level options
This PRO variant additionally has an acrylic window in the base part, and six LEDs (5 mm size) at most can be installed there. A cable duct under the stainless steel cover leads their wires to the side of the reservoir. The PRO variants can be upgraded with an electronic fill level sensor at a later date.
The aqualis XT 450/880 ml variants have the same acrylic window and LED mounting. Additionally, the XT variants feature an electronic fill level sensor with USB and aquabus interface, a programmable alarm output and an external temperature sensor input. The aquasuite software for monitoring and configuration can be downloaded free of charge. In addition to USB, the 4-pin aquabus interface can directly connect the fill level sensor to an aquaero 5 or 6 controller (not included in delivery).
On the XT, the alarm output can be configured to be used as a rpm signal for a fan connector with fault detection (for example motherboard fan headers). It can also be used as a switched output, for example to connect a LED. Fill level and the external temperature sensor input can each be configured to raise an alarm, and that input is compatible with all Aqua Computer temperature sensors. Many reservoirs are also available with pump top adapters and pumps pre-installed.
What the loop needs
Fittings are not included in delivery, so order one for each connector you use from our fittings section. A separate pump from our pumps section moves the coolant. The stainless steel bracket fastens to the reservoir with two M3 x 8 mm screws, and four more M3 x 8 mm screws with nuts are supplied to mount the bracket to the PC.
Technical details
| Dimensions without stainless steel bracket | approx. 80 x 80 x 200 mm |
| Filling volume | approx. 450 ml |
| Connection threads | G1/4 |
| Recess around connection threads of the base part | diameter 25 mm, depth 6 mm (center) / 18 mm (lateral) |
| Recess around connection threads of the lid | diameter 26 mm, depth 3 mm |
Notes
- Connectors with a larger outer diameter than the recesses can only be installed with suitable extensions, not included in delivery.
- Contrary to the main photo, the lid of the reservoir has four holes, including sealing screws.
- The top comes off counter-clockwise to free the glass tube; keep the gaskets aligned in their grooves and screw it back by hand, no tools.
- Screws in the plastic base part take light force only, so the threads are not damaged.
In the box
