A compact loop in one part

Aquacomputer describes the airplex modularity system as a modular radiator series for PC water cooling. In its words, the series represents the competence and know-how of Aqua Computer, a company manufacturing water cooling systems since 2001. It also claims an extremely high cooling capacity for this compact version, based on Aqua Computer's many years of experience.

On this model the D5 NEXT pump and the expansion tank sit directly in the Delrin terminal, which reduces space consumption and saves time and effort. Thanks to that, the implementation of an extremely compact, and above all easy-to-install, water cooling system is no problem. The pump also makes it possible to access data, for example the water temperature measurement or a flow sensor.

How the radiator is built

The tube and fin element has 21 copper pipes, and its stainless steel flanges are pressed on ex works. Furthermore, terminals made from acetal (Delrin) close both sides. Each is sealed against its stainless steel flange with a sealing ring (o-ring seal) and screwed to it securely.

The different versions of the series are almost identical: the only differences are the side parts and the lamella (fin) packages. In addition, there are no soldered joints and no welding is performed, so no solder residues stay inside. The radiator can be completely dismantled, and therefore it allows extensive cleaning.

Connecting a second radiator

The connection threads are recessed in the Delrin terminals. A small connection adapter can be fitted in the pocket above each thread to connect two airplex modularity radiators flatly, without the need for hose connections or bulky tubing. Their orientation determines the flow of the coolant:

  • If they are located laterally to each other, side by side, the radiators are connected in series.
  • If they are stacked, the flow runs parallel through them.

Key features of the series

  • Optimized flow resistance, and fin spacing optimized for low fan speeds and excellent passive cooling performance.
  • Fins free of coating, for good heat transfer.
  • The pipes are copper, so the cooling liquid has no direct contact with aluminum.
  • High precision production for an exact fit, and riveted threads for fan installation.
  • Comprehensive accessories, for example reservoirs, pump modules, stands and connectors.
  • A modular system with exchangeable components; many models also come with copper fins, for higher cooling capacity.

Two separate cooling circuits

A special feature of the series, for special configurations, is the possibility of operating two separate cooling circuits in one radiator. There the cooling surface is allocated to the primary or secondary circuit in a ratio of approximately 70 to 30, and complete sealing makes mixing of the coolant flowing through impossible. This pump version has one circuit.

Size

Every airplex modularity radiator is 146 mm wide and fits standard 5 1/4 drive bays. Without the pump module this one is 63.5 mm high and 480 mm plus 44 mm long.

What the loop needs

Mounting options are in our radiator mounting hardware section. Matching fans for the riveted threads are among our fans. The ports take G1/4 fittings that fit the 19 mm recess. To add a second airplex modularity radiator side by side, use the interconnection plates (33503).
