A modular radiator with its own pump

The airplex modularity system is Aquacomputer's modular radiator series for PC water cooling, with exchangeable components and what Aquacomputer calls extremely high cooling capacity. Aquacomputer says it represents the competence and know-how of Aqua Computer, a maker of water cooling systems since 2001.

This compact version, based on those many years of experience, has the D5 NEXT pump and the expansion tank integrated directly into the Delrin terminal. Aquacomputer says this saves space, time and effort, and makes the implementation of an extremely compact, above all easy-to-install water cooling system no problem. With the D5 NEXT it is also possible to access data such as the water temperature measurement or, for example, a flow sensor.

How the radiator is built

The base component is a tube/fin element: 21 copper pipes carrying the fin (lamella) packages, with stainless steel flanges pressed on ex works. Terminals made from acetal (Delrin) are mounted on both ends. They are sealed against the flanges on both sides with a sealing ring (o-ring seal) and screwed to them.

Furthermore, there are no soldered joints and no welding, so no solder residues. In addition, the radiator can be completely dismantled, and therefore it allows extensive cleaning. The different versions of the series are almost identical: the differences are only the side parts and the lamella packages.

Joining two radiators

The connection threads are recessed in the terminals. A small connection adapter fitted in the pocket around a thread will connect two airplex modularity radiators flat, without the need for hose connections. Their orientation determines the flow of the coolant:

  • If they are located laterally to each other, side by side, they are connected in series.
  • If they are stacked on top of each other, the flow is parallel.

Two separate cooling circuits

A special feature of the series is the possibility of operating two separate cooling circuits, available in every radiator size for special configurations. There the cooling surface is allocated to the primary or secondary circuit in a ratio of approximately 70 to 30. Thanks to their complete sealing, mixing of the coolant flowing through them is impossible.

Key features

  • Optimized flow resistance; fin spacing optimized for low fan speeds and excellent passive cooling performance.
  • Fins free of coating, for good heat transfer.
  • No direct coolant contact with aluminum: the pipes are copper.
  • High precision production and riveted threads for fan installation.
  • Many airplex modularity models are also available with copper fins, for higher cooling capacity.

Size

All radiators of the series are 146 mm wide, which fits standard 5 1/4 inch drive bays. Without the pump module a radiator is 63.5 mm high and as long as its fan dimension plus 44 mm, here 280 mm + 44 mm.

What the loop needs

For mounting, see our radiator mounting hardware section. The ports take G1/4 fittings that fit the 19 mm recess, and larger connectors need extensions. A second radiator joins with the side-by-side interconnection plates (33503) or the horizontally stacked set (33504). Aquacomputer also makes stands (33508).
