This is the VPP655 as a 12V pump core without a top, Alphacool's twist on the traditional D5 pump and backwards compatible with D5 tops and accessories. Power comes from a 12V Molex connector of the system PSU.

The VPP655 pump
Alphacool calls this its new power pump series, with exceptional performance at an unbeatable price. The 12V pumps can simply be connected directly to the system PSU. The pump will then start with your PC, which Alphacool counts as maximum convenience and safety. Alphacool says this pump is ideal for PC and other electronics water cooling.
The spherical motor
It is a DC pump, equipped with an electronically commutated spherical motor. In a pump with such a ball motor the only moving part is a spherically shaped rotor, held in place by a bearing ball made of ultra-hard and wear-resistant ceramic. Alphacool says the spherical bearing of the rotor offers many advantages. For example, due to the design an increase of bearing play is impossible, allowing the pump to run quietly and smoothly over its whole lifespan. A separate magnetic shielding is not needed for the pump. According to Alphacool, the ball motor design allows efficient operation in combination with excellent performance.
What the loop needs
A pump core has no top of its own, so it needs a top or a reservoir that holds a D5: see our D5 pump tops.
Notes
- Alphacool's note on application: please use the pump only in conjunction with clear, transparent water cooling fluids. It warns that the particles and additives in Pastel liquids can clog and permanently damage water cooling products such as radiators, pumps, coolers and hoses. This can result in voiding the manufacturer's warranty as well.
