Quick Overview

The Ice Station 40 DC-LT The Enterprise Solutions series is similar to the Solo Top and is therefore also extremely compact.

Details

The Alphacool Eisstation 40 DC-LT Reservoir is a pump top with an expansion tank for the DC-LT pump series. It measures 60 x 40 x 40.48 mm, and almost 29 ml of coolant fits in the tank. It belongs to Alphacool's Enterprise Solutions series and fits into 1U server racks. No pump is in the box: a DC-LT pump is ordered separately.

Solo Top with an expansion tank

Alphacool describes this station as similar to its Eisstation DC-LT Solo Top and therefore also extremely compact. The difference is that the 40 already brings the expansion tank, also called a surge tank, with it. With the reservoir combination, in other words, the pump top of the ice station corresponds to this series. Solo Top and reservoir together are only 6 cm long, 4 cm wide and 4.1 cm high. Despite their size, however, just under 29 ml of coolant fit into the container. An insert for a bubble-down filter sits under the upper aluminum plate of the top, where it minimizes the suction of air bubbles. As with the Solo Top, the filter prevents air bubbles from coming to the pump.

On a radiator or in a 1U server

The station can be mounted directly on a radiator, and its size is why it fits itself to a 40 mm Alphacool X-Flow NexXxoS Radiator. The enclosed double nipple, the rotatable adapter in the box, allows it to be connected directly to one of the four G1/4 threads on the side or front of the radiator. But as it is then joined straight to the radiator, the ice station acts as extended reservoir. Alphacool says that the station, including a NexXxoS 40 mm X-Flow radiator, fits easily into a 1U server enclosure.

What the loop needs

The tank has five G1/4 connections. Two are used and the rest take the three screw plugs in the box. If you mount the station on a radiator, the double nipple takes one of the two. Tube connects through G1/4 fittings. The installation of the pump is identical to the Solo Top above: remove the bottom plate and insert the O-ring, then the pump is screwed down and the plate attached again. So the pump ends up completely covered by the top and protected from all sides.

The Solo Top on its own

Without the tank, the Solo Top is an extremely compact pump top that Alphacool calls very powerful together with the DC-LT pump. Alphacool says it plays to its strengths wherever there is little space, or where a pump should be stored to save space. Compatible with the DC-LT pump series, it is also well suited for small water cooling systems and even fits in 1U server racks. If the upper aluminum plate is removed, that top can be extended by a surge tank, which is the combination sold on this page. Alphacool calls the assembly very practical and versatile: the Solo Top's accessories include a Velcro mat, so the top can be fixed anywhere in the housing. According to Alphacool the velcro mat adheres very well and gives a secure hold. Those who prefer to use mounting feet can order them separately and install the ice station at a 30 degree or 90 degree angle. Neither a Velcro mat nor feet come with the 40.

The larger Eisstation 80 DC-LT

The ice station 80 DC-LT of the same series, on the other hand, even fits 2U server racks, depending on the installation variant. Alphacool states that the entire 80 is made of acetal, making it extremely durable. A velcro mat is included with it too, and the 80 can be fixed to any position with it without losing its compact design. Unlike the other ice station, the 80 has mounting feet included, with which the height can be adjusted, and an assembly in 30 degrees or 90 degrees angle is possible. Its included decoupling feet are there so that the volume can be reduced. The pump goes in the same way as with the other two articles. Only the filling is easier, because easy spray bottles or funnels can be used through the 25 mm large filling opening.

If the pump top of the 80 is used together with the reservoir, the inlet is located on the side of the reservoir and the outlet on the side of the pump top. If IN and OUT are to run in a certain direction, the expansion tank can also be disassembled and rotated to any position. If the reservoir is not used, there is an additional input on the opposite side of the OUT.
