The Alphacool Eisbecher Aurora D5 150mm Reservoir - Acetal is a 150mm tube reservoir with a real glass tube and an acetal housing, for a D5 or Alphacool VPP pump. It measures 77 x 77 x 142 mm and no pump is in the box. The taller size is the Eisbecher Aurora D5 250mm: 77 x 77 x 242 mm, 269 mm / 288 mm with the stand bracket, 755 g.

Glass tube and design

Alphacool lists this reservoir as the Eisbecher Aurora D5 Acetal/Glass - 150mm. It uses real glass for the tube rather than the usual plastic that Alphacool usually relies on. Alphacool says the embedded 5V digital RGB LED ring together with the new design, makes the reservoir look magnificent, and that of course the Lighttower water effect is used again.

Extensive mounting options

There are two basic ways of mounting, but these can be used in a versatile way. With the included feet, the stand mounting brackets, the reservoir can be mounted to the bottom of the case, for example. The manual does this with the four M4x8 screws and the M4 nuts. However, the box also includes mounting frames, so the mounting can be done via any 120 or 140mm fan location instead. This also means you can mount it on to fans or even directly on to a radiator by its fan mounts. The manual screws the brackets to the frames with the four M4x12 screws and uses the four M3x5 screws on a radiator. Depending on the radiator size, as in its example of a 240-30 or 280-30 X-Flow, the bracket must be rotated. On a 120-30 or 140-30 X-Flow it need not be.

Digital RGB lighting

The 12 aRGB LEDs illuminate the glass from below. They are located in a ring at the bottom of the tube and are not visible from the outside. The illumination is particularly strong at the bottom and slowly decreases toward the top. In combination with the Lighttower water effect, Alphacool says a very special kind of illumination is achieved, especially by the reflections in the real glass. As with all Alphacool Digital RGB products, the LEDs are connected via a 3-pin JST connector, and other such products can be connected directly via the Y-adapter. The 3-Pin JST to 3-Pin 5V adapter in the box connects the ring to a 3-Pin 5V header. The manual shows Alphacool's Aurora Eiscontrol controller (item no. 15360) as the optional way to run the lighting.

Lighttower water effect

A special water effect is created in the Aurora Eisbecher via the riser tubes. If you do not fill the reservoir beyond the top of the riser tube, you will get a kind of fountain. In this case the water is pushed out the sides of the riser tube and splashed against the glass. Depending on the strength of the flow of the loop, the effect is stronger or weaker. There is one riser tube with this effect at the bottom inlet and one at the top inlet. To change a riser tube, the manual says to remove the pump and stand bracket, unscrew the holder screws and carefully pull out the cover with its linkage, then the glass tube. The riser tube is only plugged in. When you put it back, the filter with the inlay must sit on the top left, the only position in which the water flow is guaranteed.

Pump?

This reservoir is compatible with all original D5 Xylem/Lowara pumps and for all Alphacool VPP pumps; the data sheet names them as Alphacool VPP / Laing D5 pumps. A pump is not part of the scope of delivery. We stock the Alphacool VPP Apex pump and other D5 pumps, and the same reservoir with a VPP Apex pump included.

What the loop needs

The reservoir has five G1/4 ports, one IN and four OUT. A loop uses one of each, and the three stop plugs in the box close the openings you do not need. The pump mounting ring, its gasket ring and the screws are in the box; the pump, fittings and coolant are not.

Notes

• Use only clear, transparent water cooling fluids. Alphacool warns that the particles and additives in pastel liquids can clog and permanently damage radiators, pumps, coolers and hoses, which can void the manufacturer's warranty.
• For refilling, the manual recommends Alphacool's own clear cooling liquids (CKC, Tec Protect or Eiswasser Crystal, no UV) or pure distilled or osmosis filtered water.
