What is it?
Alphacool's highlights are the brass, the Lighttower, the choice of sizes and colors, and the connection options. It says this is its first reservoir, which it also calls an expansion tank, with a base and top (or lid) in brass. Both are solid nickel-plated brass, creating what Alphacool describes as a uniquely elegant look in your computer. According to Alphacool the reservoir doesn't get its good looks from various gimmicks, but rather from its simplicity and the materials used.
Lighttower water effect
And yet the reservoir still features an optical highlight that Alphacool says has become virtually essential to its series: the Lighttower is included here too. Streams of water coming sideways out of the riser pipe hit the transparent Plexiglas and make a unique fountain effect that changes at every flow rate. If you'd rather not use it, you can simply fill the reservoir past the riser pipe.
Many connection options
The base has two options for connecting both the inlet and the outlet: on the side of the base or directly underneath it. This gives you different ways of setting up your system the way you want it. You can also pass the water into the reservoir through its top, though that setup does have some disadvantages. It means going without the Lighttower effect, and of course air will enter the cooling loop when it is switched off.
Installation
The included clip-on brackets make installation a cinch, in Alphacool's words. Each bracket is simply screwed in at the desired place with an M4 screw. If your case doesn't have holes in the right places, you can drill those in. The reservoir just needs to be clipped on. When it is at the desired height, the clips can be fastened to hold it in place. Alphacool's verdict: it doesn't get any easier than that.
Three sizes and two colors
The Cape Corp Coolplex HF Metal is available in Chrome and Deep Black versions, and Alphacool carries three different sizes. From the extremely compact Metal 10 to the medium Metal 15 up to the expansive Metal 25, you choose the right version to fit your system. With this one you get the Metal 15 in Chrome.
What the loop needs
Of the five G1/4 threads, two are used, one as inlet and one as outlet, and the other three take the sealing plugs in the box. Each of the two takes one of our G1/4 fittings. The reservoir comes without a pump, so the loop needs one.
