Product information: the HEATKILLER IV

Watercool sums the line up as "made from enthusiasts for enthusiasts". The water coolers of its HEATKILLER® CPU series rank, by Watercool's account, among the most popular and top-selling CPU water coolers. Ever since the launch of the first HEATKILLER CPU water cooler in 2001, the series has been constantly improved and optimized, and so far the HEATKILLER® IV presents the most extensive alterations.

• Now even more powerful: a completely revised cooling structure brings up to 3 °C temperature decrease compared to its predecessor

Cooling structure and flow

The focus of innovation was the new cooling structure. Finer micro fins greatly enlarge the contact surface between the cooling liquid and the cooler, and the flow characteristics became optimized as well. Thanks to these changes the cooling performance increased by up to 3 °C over the predecessor. Supported by large-volume receptacles, the flow efficiency benefits too. The block features what Watercool calls a real high flow design, making it perfectly suitable also for lower performing pumps.

By the way, the new structure completely does without a separate jet plate. That improves the cooler's reliability, as less dust particles can accumulate within the cooling structure.

EasyMount and fittings

The HEATKILLER® IV also comes up with an improved feature set, which includes the comfortable Easy-Mount-System. After the initial installation, the cooler can be mounted or de-mounted tool-free at any time, without the need to dismount the mainboard as well. The mounting brackets now precisely define the contact pressure, thus mounting errors virtually do not appear.

If you prefer big fittings, you will be glad to hear of the enlarged distance between the two G1/4 threads: it is now 25 mm. This makes the block compatible with all common thread types, up to the size of 19/13. Two ports means two fittings, for example 3/8" ID x 5/8" OD compression fittings (16/10) or 1/2" ID x 3/4" OD compression fittings (19/13).

The HEATKILLER® IV is a product "made in Germany": it is manufactured on what Watercool calls state-of-the-art CNC machines at the Watercool headquarters in Waren.

Notes

• Watercool's manual has a page of important information on the orientation of the block on the CPU; read it before you mount.
• Use the correct washers at the positions the manual shows: a metal washer between spring and mounting bracket, and the plastic spacer (4 mm on AM4, 5 mm on AM5). Tighten the studs and knurled nuts evenly and crosswise.
