Quick Overview

The WireView Pro II is an advanced in-line monitoring solution for modern GPUs using the 12V-2x6 connector. It measures current per pin, total power, voltage, and temperature in real time to instantly detect uneven load distribution or contact issues that can lead to connector failure. Featuring an integrated display, active cooling, automatic data logging, audible/visual alarms, and a 90-degree cable adapter design, it delivers precise protection and transparency for high-end graphics cards, no software required.

Details

Thermal Grizzly WireView Pro II GPU 12V-2x6 Normal: an in-line monitoring device that plugs into the 12V-2x6 power connector of a graphics card and measures the current on every single pin. This is the "Normal" (N) version in black. Whether a card takes it or the "Reverse" (R) version depends on the card's connector, so run the compatibility check below before ordering. It is also listed in white and as a Noctua Edition.

Normal or Reverse: check the card first

NOTE: the unit is available with the 12VHPWR 16-pin power connector (4x sensor + 12x power/ground) in "Normal" (N) and "Reverse" (R) versions, and the card decides between them. This is the "N" version. It is required if the graphics card has power connectors where the four sensor pins are located between the PCB and the 12 power pins (PCB - 4x sensor pin - 12x power pins). When the 12 power pins sit between the PCB and the four sensor pins instead (PCB - 12x power pins - 4x sensor pin), the card needs the "R" version.

Thermal Grizzly's Compatibility List names the tested cards for each version, RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 models among them, plus the cards that take neither. Its technical drawing gives the dimensions for checking the clearances to the side panel of the case and to the CPU cooler.

Per-pin monitoring

Thermal Grizzly has specifically developed the unit for the demanding use of modern high-end graphics cards. It represents the most advanced iteration of the WireView Pro: an enhanced version with additional functionality. Current is not only measured as a total value, but also per each individual pin and wire of the connector, for what the manufacturer calls highest precision. That per-pin reading is what enables immediate identification of potential contact issues between the cable and graphics card. Thermal Grizzly purpose-built it to enable precise monitoring of the connector, allowing early detection of load distribution problems and helping to prevent possible damage to the card and its connector. The design is a patented development by Thermal Grizzly, protected by European patent EP4250057.

Safety-relevant parameters such as currents (A), voltages (V), temperatures (°C), and power consumption (W) are all measured continuously. Temperature monitoring happens at the input and output of the 12V-2x6 connector, and two external 10k NTC temperature sensors are included for other spots in the system. Thermal Grizzly has defined the preset threshold values as limits which should not be exceeded during regular operation, since doing so would increase the risk of thermal damage. When a threshold is exceeded, an audible alarm is triggered and a visual warning appears on the display. Automatic system shutdown can optionally be initiated as well, via the included splitter cable. The preset values can be adjusted through the configuration menu.

Cooling

Plug connections have unavoidable contact resistances which result in power loss. Due to that, additional heat is generated during the operation of high-performance GPUs. To ensure controlled heat dissipation, a semi-passive 30-mm fan has been integrated. It operates silently at idle and activates automatically with increasing power draw and temperature, so it is controlled by temperature and power load. The CNC-machined aluminum housing features ventilation openings and serves as an active heatsink, which is the active cooling functionality in the feature list. Optimized openings in the rear PCB guide the airflow around all heat-relevant components, including the graphics card power connector.

User-friendliness: cable routing and display

With its Normal or reversed plug orientation options, the unit is available with two connector orientations and can therefore be used with nearly any graphics card that has a 12V-2x6 connection. The 12V-2x6 connector itself is custom-designed for optimal compatibility. The input connector is downward-facing, an orientation that allows clean cable routing, since the device functions as a 90-degree adapter at the same time. Thermal Grizzly lists that as 90-degree cable routing for optimized cable management.

The integrated 320x170-pixel TFT-IPS color display provides multiple layouts that can be configured directly on the device:

  • Main View: per-pin monitoring, power consumption, connector detection, fan % and output temperature
  • Simple View: total power, the highest-current pin, voltage and the hottest sensor
  • Current Monitor: current per pin in amps, with a visual limit display
  • Voltage Monitor: per-pin voltage plus the average value
  • Power Monitor: per-pin and total power
  • Temperature Monitor: all 4 temperature sensors on one display

Audible and visual warnings appear if limits are exceeded. The display has extensive configuration options, and there are global settings for alarms, cycle mode, design, and fan control.

The device functions as a standalone hardware solution: it can be used and configured without a software connection, with plug-and-play usability and without the need for custom configuration. The USB-C port is for user-performed firmware updates, and a USB-C to USB-2.0 adapter cable is included for internal PC integration. Thermal Grizzly said additional customization and system reporting would be expanded in the future with software support, and that a corresponding update was planned for mid-December. Its download section now offers WireView2 software for the device.

Automatic data logging

An integrated memory logs relevant operating data at regular intervals to enable traceability of potential error events, which is what makes failure case analysis possible. The logged values include per pin current measurements, total power consumption and the PCB temperature near the 12V-2x6 output connector (T-Out), with a data record stored every 60 seconds. According to Thermal Grizzly, the memory supports approximately 340 days of continuous usage or around 3-4 years of typical operation before the older entries are automatically overwritten. Thermal Grizzly adds that the collected data supports both failure analysis and the continued development of safer plug connections within the community.

Extended warranty and clarity for the end user

To ensure a high level of operational safety, the unit includes an extended warranty covering the GPU connector, with a period of 2 years from the date of purchase. It goes beyond statutory warranty and the standard manufacturer guarantee. If damage should occur to the 12VHPWR or 12V-2x6 connector of the graphics card despite the integrated protective mechanisms, repairs will be performed by Thermal Grizzly. If a repair is not possible, an equivalent replacement will be provided. The protection still applies after the original graphics card warranty has expired. Any warranty claim requires that the device is used properly, in accordance with the user manual and within the operating parameters defined by the GPU manufacturer. The exact conditions are in Thermal Grizzly's extended warranty terms.

Thermal Grizzly describes this as a guaranteed protection package that provides maximum transparency and safety. In its words, the customer invests in state-of-the-art monitoring technology and can rely on Thermal Grizzly to offer fast and straightforward support in case of damage. It names the aim as ensuring maximum performance without unnecessary risk.

Installing it

Only install the unit when the PC system is switched off; the quick guide also recommends disconnecting the mains plug. The power cable of the power supply unit goes into the device, and the device goes into the power connector of the graphics card. The temperature sensors, the Y-splitter for the motherboard and the USB cable are optional connections. Check that every plug is fully inserted before switching on.
