General information
The DeltaMate Quick Disconnect (QDC) fittings are quick-release couplings: a true zero-spill quick disconnect with an integrated shutoff function and a vacuum-assisted anti-leak design. The locking mechanism is push-to-connect, slide-to-release. Thermal Grizzly optimized the internal geometry of the QDCs for high flow, so it minimizes flow resistance and restriction while maintaining reliable sealing. Each QDC coupling requires two fittings, one with a male QDC connector and one with a female QDC connector, and this fitting features the female one. The range is available in G1/4" male and female thread variants for full loop compatibility. For an elegant finish, this version is coated with a matt nickel finish.
How it is built
DeltaMate Fittings are water cooling connectors that Thermal Grizzly designed for the individual components of a custom water cooling loop. As expected from Thermal Grizzly quality, they are precisely machined from brass. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. It offers the advantage of being anodically compatible with other metals while being harder and more corrosion-resistant than copper. The precision-machined brass construction is there for durability: the base is nickel-plated, the insert is nickel-plated and the spring is stainless steel (AISI 316). The sealing rings (O-rings) are made from EPDM (ethylene propylene diene rubber), a highly elastic material which is resistant to ozone and UV radiation. The robust design allows for installation using an 8 mm hex key. All DeltaMate fittings share a uniform outer diameter, which Thermal Grizzly says ensures seamless integration of individual components.
Why are QDCs special?
Quick disconnects are special fittings that allow components in a water-cooling loop to be replaced quickly. They are therefore a great help for content creators, since the entire loop does not have to be drained, for example, when swapping a graphics card in a test setup with a custom loop. They are also frequently used by PC enthusiasts, who integrate external radiators into the loop with them. Each coupling consists of a plug half (Male) and a socket half (Female), and both of them are available with male threads (M) and female threads (F).
While QDCs offer several benefits, such as the time savings and the options for adding external radiators mentioned above, they also have drawbacks. They are made up of several smaller parts that require precise machining and subsequent hand assembly, which results in higher manufacturing costs compared to regular fittings. In addition, due to their function, they can cause a slight drop in pressure and so restrict water flow more than regular fittings do. It is therefore advisable to use only as many as are actually required.
QDCs and water blocks
For quickly swapping graphics cards in water-cooled test benches, we recommend creating directional pairs the way Thermal Grizzly does: one version with a G1/4-inch male thread (M) and one with a G1/4-inch female thread (F). This prevents accidental reversal of the flow direction, and it ensures that both valves retain the coolant when disconnected. For the intake, that means a Female - M (this fitting) on the water-block side and a Male - F on the tube side. For the outtake it is correspondingly a Male - M on the water-block side and a Female - F on the tube side. Each of the tube-side QDCs also needs a DeltaMate ST fitting (ST13 or ST16), which is required to connect the tube.
QDCs for connecting tubes
If QDCs are to be used to connect two tubes to each other, pick QDCs with female threads (F) for both sides of the quick-disconnect connection. That way standard fittings for the tubes can be mounted on the QDC ends. In the flow direction of the loop, the same plug half (male) and socket half (female) of a QDC pair should be used on all QDC connections. For one QDC connection, Thermal Grizzly lists two Male - F and two Female - F as well as four DeltaMate ST fittings (ST13 or ST16).
