The cuplex kryos NEXT series
Aquacomputer says the cuplex kryos NEXT marks a new milestone in CPU water block development. By its account, every detail was analyzed, optimized and tested to achieve perfection in cooling performance, in the installation procedure and in product features. The result, in Aquacomputer's view, is not just one CPU water block with outstanding performance. It is a product series, with various models differing in color and functionality.
Within that series, Aquacomputer names the VARIO models as the first CPU water blocks globally to incorporate a real-time adjustable base. Never before, it says, was it possible to adjust the geometry of a CPU block to perfectly fit the CPU while the PC is in operation. Models with the VISION module, this block among them, are equipped with modern electronics.
VISION: integrated electronics
Inside the VISION variants sit a microcontroller board and the OLED display. The display, the integrated water temperature sensor and the USB interface are just three of the features; the complete list is:
- water temperature sensor integrated in the water block
- connector for a flow sensor, which can alternatively be used as an alarm output
- USB interface
- aquabus interface for communication with an aquaero 5 or 6
- customizable display output
- various hardware data displayed from the aquasuite software, for example the current CPU load
The acrylic glass variants of the cuplex kryos NEXT with VISION are additionally equipped with an RGB LED that can be controlled depending on temperature or via USB; this brass version has none. Due to limited space, a maximum of two cables can be threaded into the water block, and the following combinations are possible:
- USB and aquabus
- USB and flow sensor or alarm output
- aquabus and flow sensor or alarm output
Base part with micro structure
The base part is equipped with an extremely fine micro structure whose structural width is lower than 200 µm. The coolant is injected centrally through a slot-shaped nozzle, and from there it runs to both sides of the structure. Across the series the base itself is manufactured from copper, nickel plated copper or .925 sterling silver, depending on model.
Retention system
The retention system consists of stainless steel plates 2.5 mm thick, equipped with nickel plated spring cups. Springs and knurled screws secure the water block on the motherboard, and Aquacomputer points out the very clean look it has when installed. All retention system versions feature a mechanical stop for optimum clamping force and even force distribution. You can install the knurled screws by hand, and additionally a hexagon socket wrench can be used for easy installation.
This block comes without a back plate. Socket 2011 and 2066 motherboards already include a back plate as part of the CPU socket, therefore no additional back plate is required. The cuplex kryos NEXT water blocks for socket 115x or AM3 are different: they include a steel back plate with silicone insulation to stabilize the CPU region of the motherboard.
Thermal compound
For optimum performance, Aquacomputer ships every cuplex kryos NEXT with what it calls outstanding thermal compound: a syringe with 0.5 grams of Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut is included, complete with a plastic spatula. This compound has a high thermal conductivity. Thanks to its low viscosity it spreads out thin and evenly between CPU and water block, and the amount is sufficient for approximately five applications.
Color variants and material combination
The top part of the water block is available in various materials and coatings across the series:
- Acetal black: a shiny black high-tech plastic
- Acrylic glass: a transparent body suitable for illumination
- Copper: a reddish gloss
- Nickel plated brass: a bright metallic gloss
- PVD plated brass: a high quality multi layer coating with a dark metallic gloss
The material combination of this block is PVD/.925 silver: the top part is PVD plated brass with its dark metallic gloss, and the base is 925/000 sterling silver.
Installation
Take off the old CPU cooler and, if necessary, remove thermal grease residues from the CPU surface with benzine. Place a small drop of the supplied grease, about 4 mm (0.15 inch) across, centrally on the CPU, or apply a thin layer with the plastic spatula instead.
Set the block on the CPU in the orientation the manual shows and put one spring into each recess. A knurled screw goes through each spring into the anchor threads of the CPU socket, only one or two revolutions at first. Then tighten the four screws alternately, a fraction of a revolution at a time, until all of them are fully fastened.
What the loop needs
The two connection threads are G1/4, so the block takes two fittings from our fittings section. Feed the coolant through the central fitting for best cooling performance, because reversed flow direction significantly decreases it. For corrosion inhibition, Aquacomputer requires Double Protect Ultra as the coolant.
What you need to connect it
No cables are in the box. A USB link takes the internal USB connection cable for VISION (53215). To run the block on an aquaero 5 or 6, such as the aquaero 6 LT, use the aquabus cable for VISION (53214). A flow sensor connects with the flow sensor cable for VISION, OCTO, QUADRO and Farbwerk 360 (53212), and more parts are among our VISION CPU accessories.
aquasuite software
Activating this product gives you the current aquasuite version with an upgrade service for at least six (6) months. Once that service expires, you may keep using and reinstalling the latest version released during the upgrade period, without a time limit. The update service can optionally be extended or renewed at any time for a fee, and installation and activation need an internet connection.
