Full cover for third generation Threadripper

As already mentioned in the name, FC means Full Cover: the copper base covers the entire processor. Aquacomputer adapted the block to the revised chip layout of the third generation of Threadripper CPUs. Thermal energy is concentrated in certain areas of the chip, so an optimized internal coolant flow aims maximum cooling performance at the areas where it is generated.

Base part with microstructure

All mechanical parts are CNC machined at Aqua Computer's headquarters in Germany. The huge cooling structure covers 51 x 45 mm and has the finest structure size that Aqua Computer has to offer, a spacing of less than 0.2 mm. Aquacomputer names it as one reason for what it calls exceptional cooling performance. The contact area is machined with increased precision and polished, and the copper base is finished with nickel plating.

VISION RGBpx electronics

Besides acrylic and the RGBpx LEDs, what this CPU cooler impresses with above all is VISION. According to Aquacomputer, it is the first product to carry a version of the VISION module with an integrated RGBpx controller. The 15 addressable LEDs sit below the black anodized aluminum frame and are controlled directly by the module. Display, sensor and LEDs come integrated, so the block arrives as one mounted cooler.

While the acrylic screen allows a view of the interior and lets the addressable lighting shine through, VISION provides hardware data from the aquasuite software on its OLED graphic display. That 128 x 64 px display output is customizable, for example with the current CPU load. An integrated sensor for the water temperature also sits in the block, and the module connects to the PC over its USB interface.

Retention system and thermal paste

Aquacomputer calls the mounting system ingenious, and it makes installation look very easy. On the processor, retractable springs and screws with a defined stop ensure even contact pressure. Thanks to the Kryonaut heat-conducting paste from Thermal Grizzly, 1 gram in a syringe with a plastic spatula, the assembly is efficiently rounded off. The paste has a high thermal conductivity and, due to its low viscosity, spreads thin and evenly.

What you need to connect it

Two G1/4 threads take two fittings. Supply the coolant through the upper fitting: a reversed flow direction significantly decreases cooling performance. Aquacomputer requires Double Protect Ultra as the coolant, for corrosion inhibition. No USB cable is in the scope of delivery; the Internal USB Connection Cable 100cm for VISION (53215) is sold separately.

aquasuite software

The aquasuite software handles configuration, evaluation and monitoring of all Aqua Computer USB devices. Activating this product gives you the current version with an upgrade service for at least six (6) months. After it expires, you may keep using and reinstalling the latest version from that period with no time limit. The update service can be extended or renewed at any time for a fee, and installation and activation need an internet connection.

Notes

  • Run the water cooling system first with no other PC components on the mains supply, and check the block and fittings for leakages.
  • Spread a thin layer of the grease with the spatula; seat each screw one or two revolutions, then tighten all four alternately.

In the box

  • 1x Water block
  • 1x Mounting material (screws, springs, etc.)
  • 1x Thermal compound Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, approx. 1 gram in syringe
  • 1x Plastic spatula
  • 1x Instruction manual

Aquacomputer's manual covers mounting, flow direction and the approved coolant; the technical data are listed above.
