The Alphacool VPP Apex - G1/4 inner thread including Eisdecke D5 - Acetal V.3 is a VPP Apex pump in the D5 format with the Eisdecke D5 pump top in acetal. The top has five G1/4 threads and measures 80 x 80 x 40 mm, or 83 x 80 x 87 mm with its stand. The same set with a plexi top is the VPP Apex with Eisdecke D5 Acrylic V.3.

The Eisdecke is the housing of this set. With a total of three inlets and two outlets, Alphacool says it offers maximum flexibility in tube routing. The bracket gives the pump a stable stand and also allows installation in a 3.5" drive bay. Optionally, a reservoir top that Alphacool sells separately turns the unit into a pump/reservoir combo.

Features

Alphacool calls the Apex VPP a powerful pump. It doesn't use a spherical bearing and relies on a ceramic axle instead. The coils of the motor have been moved from the inside to the outside. According to Alphacool, these changes have the effect of a fundamentally more stable and smoother running pump, and any vibrations that arise are significantly reduced. Another positive side effect Alphacool names is that power consumption has been almost halved as a result.

Power supply

Compared to Alphacool's Eispumpe, this pump is not powered through a 4-pin Molex connector. Instead it is connected to the power supply using a SATA connector, and all of its power is supplied that way.

Control

A 4-pin fan connector connects the pump to the motherboard or to an external controller. Through it the speed of the pump can be read and controlled via PWM signal, which allows you to control its speed range and read out the RPM signal.

Compatibility

The pump core is compatible with the most popular D5/VPP pump tops and reservoirs. The technical specifications of both parts, pump and Eisdecke, are in the tables below.

What the loop needs

The pump comes installed in the top. Of the five threads, two are used for one inlet and one outlet, and the rest take the three screw plugs in the box. The loop still needs two G1/4 fittings, a SATA power connector and a 4-pin PWM header for control.

Notes

• Note on application: please use the pump only in conjunction with clear, transparent water cooling fluids. Alphacool warns that the particles and additives in Pastel liquids can clog and permanently damage water cooling products such as radiators, pumps, coolers and hoses. Alphacool adds that this can result in voiding the manufacturer's warranty as well.
