Quick Overview

Alphacool is uncompromising in its choice of materials and is the only manufacturer in the world that uses only copper for all water-bearing parts in the radiator. The pre-chambers, cooling fins and cooling channels are made of pure copper. Only the fitting threads (made of brass) and the outer casing of the radiator (made of sheet steel) are made of other materials.

Details

The Alphacool NexXxoS HPE-60 Full Copper X-Flow 80mm Quad Radiator is a radiator for four 80 mm fans in a row, 60 mm thick, with the water inlet and outlet on opposite sides. Its pre-chambers, cooling fins and cooling channels are all made of pure copper.

Full Copper

Alphacool calls itself uncompromising in its choice of materials and says it is the only manufacturer in the world that uses only copper for all water-bearing parts in the radiator. Other materials appear in two places only: the fitting threads are made of brass and the outer casing of the radiator is made of stainless sheet steel.

HPE = High Performance

HPE radiators are based on the NexXxoS series, but what is new in this variant is the additional cooling channels and a very high fin density. Due to the technical design, Alphacool says, the cooling capacity increases significantly without restricting the water flow within the radiator. If the radiator is equipped with fans on both sides in push/pull operation, Alphacool says it is possible to achieve a significant temperature reduction compared to standard radiators.

X-Flow instead of U-Flow

In classic PC radiators the water flow is U-shaped, which means that inlet and outlet are on the same side. That has certain advantages in the normal PC. However, Alphacool notes, it is difficult to set up a reasonable cooling loop like this in an extremely flat server. Due to the X-Flow technology, the input and output of this radiator are located on the opposite sides, which makes it very easy to create a loop in the server rack. For example, you could go out from one side directly into a CPU, then into one or more graphics cards and the pump, then back to the radiator on the other side.

Powerful cooling performance

To maximize the performance of the radiator, Alphacool says it reaches deep into its bag of tricks. Its reason for the copper is the high thermal conductivity of 400 W/mK (in comparison: aluminum 236 W/mK). The high fin density of the radiator, 15 fins per inch, comes with a fin spacing that Alphacool says enables an optimal flow of air. Every one of the cooling fins is additionally equipped with small flaps. These are tiny wings that direct the airflow in the desired direction and ensure controlled air turbulence, which according to Alphacool increases the cooling capacity and minimizes the possible noise created by airflow.

Connection options & mounting

The radiator has six IN or OUT connections, and they each have a G1/4 thread.

What the loop needs

A loop runs in through a port on one side and out through a port on the other, so the radiator takes two G1/4 fittings, with a thread length of 5 mm at most. The fan size is 80 mm: its fan slots hold four 80 mm fans one-sided or eight double-sided, on M3 threads. All screws for mounting in the case and for mounting the fans are included with the radiator: 16x M3x30 with 16x M3 washers. Additional screws are usually not required.

Safety first

Special protective plates are placed under all mounting holes to prevent the screws from being screwed in too deeply. This protects the fins and the water channels underneath them from damage.

Patented screw plugs

All NexXxoS HPE X-Flow radiators, this one included, use Alphacool's patented stop fittings. Anyone who has mounted a radiator on the front or in the roof of a case is familiar with the fact that protruding ones can stop it from sitting flush. With the patented version, Alphacool says it offers an excellent solution: the stop fittings are completely recessed in the radiator and sit flush with its surface. This means nothing stands in the way of a clean installation. Of course, Alphacool adds, the radiators also look much more elegant with the flat stop fittings.

Notes

  • Use only clear, transparent water cooling fluids. Alphacool warns that the particles and additives in pastel liquids can clog and permanently damage water cooling products such as radiators, pumps, coolers and hoses, which can result in voiding the manufacturer's warranty as well.
