The Alphacool Eisfach - Single Laing D5 incl. Alphacool Eispumpe VPP Apex - Dual 5.25 Bay Station Reservoir is a dual 5.25" bay reservoir that comes with a preinstalled Alphacool VPP Apex PWM pump. That D5-size pump runs at 2500 - 4500 RPM. The same reservoir without a pump is the Eisfach for a single Laing D5.

Finish and front

Alphacool introduced this new reservoir under the heading "The step toward perfection". The brushed plate provides an optical finishing touch, which Alphacool says is underlined by the high quality processing. The front consists of a scratch-secure soft-touch surface painted in matte black. Being mounted in two of the front 5.25" bays, the Eisfach provides a good overview of the container, and the fill level is easily checked through the lighted window at the back. Additionally, the Alphacool logo in the front can be lighted by connecting the 3-pin connector with a power source.

Filling, draining and ports

A lot of details complement the first impression, in Alphacool's words. Two G1/4 holes at the top side are available for the first filling. To refill you simply remove the fillport in the front and extract it. Two G1/4 holes at the bottom side facilitate the draining of the liquid, and two further holes at the left hand side provide additional opportunities to fill or drain it. Alphacool's text says the last two G1/4 threads are also used to fill or drain the container. A Bubble Down module has been placed behind the inlet to prevent turbulences that could lead air into the water circuit.

Lighting

There are two lighting modules for 5mm LEDs at the right hand side at the back of the container, behind the window. Alphacool says this provides a unique opportunity for personalized lighting and optic.

What the loop needs

The VPP Apex pump is preinstalled, so no separate pump is needed. It takes power from a SATA connector, and its 4-pin PWM cable lets the motherboard or a fan controller set its speed. The reservoir takes two free 5.25" bays in the front of the case, and its connection threads are G1/4, so the loop connects with G1/4 fittings.

• Use only clear, transparent water cooling fluids. Alphacool warns that the particles and additives in pastel liquids can clog and permanently damage radiators, pumps, coolers and hoses, which can void the manufacturer's warranty.
