Details
The Alphacool Eisblock Aurora Plexi GPX-A AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT XFX Thicc II / III is a GPU water block for XFX graphics cards with the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT chip. Those are the Thicc II, the Thicc II Ultra and the Thicc III Ultra. Alphacool also lists the XFX Radeon RX 5700 DD Ultra for it. It cools the card with a nickel-plated copper block under a Plexiglass top.

Compatibility
Alphacool lists these cards for this block:
- XFX Radeon RX 5700 DD Ultra, 8GB GDDR6 (RX-57XL8LBD6)
- XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT Thicc II Ultra, 8GB GDDR6 (RX-57XT8DBD6)
- XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT Thicc II, 8GB GDDR6 (RX-57XT8DFD6)
- XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT Thicc III Ultra, 8GB GDDR6 (RX-57XT8TBD8)
The block was built for one PCB layout, and card makers sometimes revise a board so that a cooler no longer fits later models. Before ordering, compare your graphics card with the pictures in Alphacool's GPU configurator, or look it up in its compatibility list for AMD cards.
What has changed
Alphacool announces this block with the words that the new generation of its GPU coolers has arrived. It says the Eisblock Aurora Plexi GPX combines outstanding performance with breath-taking aesthetics, and that this is where its 16 years of experience pays off. The already powerful Eisblocks have been further optimized, and a new look is only one of the important changes. The thermal pads are thinner (1 mm), which moves the cooler closer to the individual components of the card. The copper block is thinner as well: 5.5 mm instead of the earlier 7 mm. The water flow inside was reworked too, and Alphacool reports a significantly improved flow rate. By its account the voltage transformers and the memory are now cooled better and more effectively, which it sums up as a significant increase in cooling performance. These are just some of the changes.
And the design
This time Alphacool puts the lighting more in the foreground: it matters more here than on the previous models. Addressable digital RGB LEDs are embedded directly into the cooling block and sit along the entire length of it, so that no corner of your case remains in the dark. The design is more angular compared to its predecessors, with all edges beveled, and that further enhances the effect. Alphacool says the reflections on those bevels promote better light diffusion in the water cooler, and that the contours they create give the cooler its own identity. The Alphacool logo sits in the corner of the top, and the names of the compatible card types are on the front of the terminal. Both are fully illuminated. IN and OUT are marked by small triangles. Finally, the branding of the Eisblock has been adapted. It is now much more discreet and, in Alphacool's words, fits perfectly into the already elegant appearance.
What else is new
There have been no compromises with the materials: the cooling block is still 100% copper. Now, however, the nickel-plating of the cooler has been improved once more. Alphacool says this increases acid resistance and almost eliminates the risk of chipping the plating. Its reason for copper is that copper has almost twice the thermal conductivity of aluminum. A further highlight is the use of the patented Alphacool stop plugs. These sit flush with the surface of the terminal and form a flat surface when screwed in, so there are no more annoying protruding stop fittings. Alphacool calls the block a complete redevelopment of its previous graphics card water coolers. With this product, it says, it has once again proven its technical know-how. Its invitation: check it out for yourself and let your system shine in a new light.
What the loop needs
The block has four G1/4 threads. Two take the compression fittings for your tube size, which are not in the box, and the other two take the two screw plugs that are, along with a plug tool. The lighting has a 3-Pin 5V (0.5A) power supply. The included Digital RGB adaptor joins the block to a digital RGB controller such as the Alphacool Aurora Eiscontrol (Art. 15360), which is not included. Thermal pads, heat-conducting paste, 12 M2x5 screws and a replacement logo cover also come with the block. The cover is for owners of a Thicc III Ultra, who can swap the Thicc II logo for it.

Notes
- Alphacool asks that the block be used only with clear transparent water cooling fluids. It warns that the particles and additives in Pastel liquids can clog and permanently damage radiators, pumps, coolers and hoses, and that this can void the manufacturer's warranty.
- Remove the original cooler on an antistatic mat and clean the card of thermal paste and pad residues before fitting the block.
- Tighten the fittings by hand, without tools. The manual warns that connectors with 8 mm long threads may stop the flow.
