Quick Overview

The new generation of Alphacool GPU coolers has arrived! The Alphacool Eisblock Aurora Plexi GPX combines outstanding performance with breath-taking aesthetics.

Details

The Alphacool Eisblock Aurora Plexi GPX-A AMD Radeon 5700 XT Sapphire Nitro+ is a GPU water block for the Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 5700 XT 8G graphics card. It cools the card with a nickel-plated copper block under a transparent plexiglass top, lit along its length by addressable digital RGB LEDs. No backplate is in the box.

Compatibility

Alphacool lists these cards for this block:

  • Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 5700 XT 8G, 8GB GDDR6 (11293-03-40G)

The cooler is constructed specifically for one PCB layout, and graphics card manufacturers occasionally revise a card so that a cooler no longer fits later models. Before ordering, compare your card with the pictures in Alphacool's Graphics Card Configurator, or look it up in its AMD Compatibility List.

What has changed?

Alphacool announced this block with the line that the new generation of Alphacool GPU coolers has arrived. It says the Eisblock Aurora Plexi GPX combines outstanding performance with breath-taking aesthetics, and that this is where its 16 years of experience pays off. The already powerful Eisblocks have been further optimized. A new look, thinner thermal pads (1 mm), a thinner copper block (5.5 mm) and what Alphacool calls a significantly improved flow rate are just some of the important changes.

The thinner pads move the cooler closer to the individual components, and the copper block was 7 mm thick before. Alphacool says the voltage transformers and the memory are now more effectively cooled by the water.

And the design?

This time Alphacool puts the lighting more in the foreground. Along the entire cooling block there are addressable digital RGB LEDs, embedded directly into it, so that in Alphacool's words no corner of your case remains in the dark. The design is more angular compared to its predecessors, with all edges beveled, which further enhances this effect.

What else?

There have been no compromises with the materials, Alphacool says, and the cooling block is still 100% copper. Now, however, the nickel-plating of the cooler has been further optimized. By Alphacool's account this increases acid resistance and almost eliminates the risk of chipping the nickel-plating. A further highlight is the use of the patented Alphacool stop plugs. These sit flush with the surface of the cooler and form a flat surface when screwed in, so there are no more annoying protruding stop fittings.

Finally, the branding of the Eisblock has been adapted. It is now much more discreet, and Alphacool finds that it fits perfectly into the already elegant appearance. The logo sits in the corner on the top and is fully illuminated, and IN and OUT are marked by small triangles. With this product Alphacool says it has once again proven its technical know-how, and it invites you to check it out for yourself and let your system shine in a new light.

What the loop needs

The block has four G1/4 threads. Two take the compression fittings for your tube size, which are not in the box, and the other two are closed with the two screw plugs that are, using the enclosed plug tool. The lighting takes a Digital RGB 3-Pin 5V power supply (0.5 A). The included Digital RGB adaptor links it to a digital RGB controller such as the Alphacool Aurora Eiscontrol (Art. 15360), which is not included. Thermal pads, thermal paste and screws also come with the block.

Notes

  • Alphacool's note on application: use the block only with clear transparent water cooling fluids. It warns that the particles and additives in Pastel liquids can clog and permanently damage radiators, pumps, coolers and hoses, and that this can void the manufacturer's warranty.
  • Spread the thermal paste on the GPU in a layer less than a millimeter thick, and hand-tighten the screws crosswise, one turn at a time.
  • Tighten fittings by hand only. The manual warns that tools such as pliers or wrenches easily overload the threads.
