The Alphacool Core RX 9070 XT Hellhound + Pure with Backplate is a GPU water block for AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 graphics cards from PowerColor and Sapphire. The PowerColor Hellhound and the Sapphire PURE are two of them, and every card is named under Compatibility. A chrome-plated copper block under an acrylic top cools the card, and the aluminum backplate is in the box.

The block was designed for one special PCB layout, and card makers sometimes revise a board so that a cooler no longer fits later models. Before ordering, compare your card and its PCB number with the pictures in Alphacool's GPU configurator, or look it up in its Compatibility List for AMD cards.
Copper block and terminal
At the center of the cooler is a copper block, milled from a single piece. It is complemented by a precisely machined brass connection terminal with a nylon cover. Alphacool says the chrome plating makes the copper cooler more durable and ensures a smoother and brighter surface than conventional nickel plating. The series continues to rely on high-quality brass connectors, which Alphacool describes as guaranteeing optimal quality and safety.
Design and lighting
The block belongs to the Core product series, the new series of graphics card water coolers that Alphacool introduces for the latest AMD Radeon RX generation. Alphacool has only slightly changed the visual design of the GPU water cooler. A special highlight is the newly added Core emblem above the jet plate: it underlines the affiliation with the series and visually enhances the design. The backplate is specially adapted to the board and covers the entire back of the copper cooler, which gives the complete block a clear and uniform appearance. In combination with the aRGB lighting, the acrylic enables even and impressive illumination of the entire cooler.
Flow and testing
Technically, Alphacool says, the cooler has been completely redesigned. To optimize cooling performance, the gaps between the cooler and the components on the PCB were redefined and tested. Alphacool simulated the water flow using what it calls state-of-the-art software, and the result was verified in practical tests. These extensive tests enabled improvements to the cooler base and the nozzle (the jetplate), which Alphacool says ensure the best possible cooling performance for the new generation. Its claim for the series is that the coolers combine the highest quality with exceptional performance and, thanks to an optimized technical design, deliver outstanding cooling.
What the loop needs
The block has four G1/4 connections. Two take the compression fittings for your tube size, which are not in the box, and the other two take the two plugs that are, along with a plug tool. The lighting has a 3-Pin JST power connector and runs at a voltage of 5V, and an ARGB adapter is included. Thermal pads, thermal grease, a putty tool, a screwdriver, the PCI bracket and two spacers also come with the block. The manual gives the thermal pads a hardness level of Shore-00 35.

Notes
- Alphacool asks that the block be used only with clear transparent water cooling fluids. It warns that the particles and additives in Pastel liquids can clog and permanently damage a radiator, a pump, a cooler or the hoses, and that this can void the manufacturer's warranty.
- The manual mounts the IO shield by card. The RX 9070 XT Pure and Pulse use Alphacool's IO shield with the original screws, while the RX 9070 XT Hellhound and Reaper keep the original IO shield and screws.
- Remove the original cooler on an antistatic mat and clean the card of thermal paste and pad residues before fitting the block.
