Details
The Alphacool Core Geforce RTX 5090 EPIC-X with Backplate is a GPU water block for PNY's GeForce RTX 5090 Triple Fan graphics cards with an Nvidia chip, with or without ARGB EPIC-X RGB. It fits the standard and the Overclocked version of both. A chrome-plated copper block under an acrylic top cools the card, and the aluminum backplate is in the box.

Compatibility
Alphacool lists these cards for this block:
- PNY GeForce RTX™ 5090 ARGB EPIC-X RGB™ Overclocked Triple Fan GPU
- PNY GeForce RTX™ 5090 ARGB EPIC-X RGB™ Triple Fan GPU
- PNY GeForce RTX™ 5090 Overclocked Triple Fan GPU
- PNY GeForce RTX™ 5090 Triple Fan GPU
The block was designed for one PCB layout, and card makers sometimes revise a board so that a cooler no longer fits later models. Before ordering, compare your card and its PCB number with the pictures in Alphacool's GPU configurator, or look it up in its Compatibility List for Nvidia cards. Alphacool's 1-slot block for these PNY cards is the ES RTX 5090 Reference 1-Slot-Design REV1, built for servers and workstations.
Copper block and terminal
The copper block at the center of the cooler is precisely milled from a single piece. It is complemented by a precisely machined brass connection terminal with a nylon cover. Alphacool says the chrome plating makes the copper cooler more durable and ensures a smoother, brighter surface than conventional nickel plating. The series continues to rely on high-quality brass connectors, which Alphacool says guarantee optimal quality and safety.
Design and lighting
Alphacool presents this block among its new graphics card water coolers for the latest Nvidia GeForce RTX generation, and they are part of the Core product series. Alphacool has changed the visual design of the GPU water cooler only slightly. A special highlight is the newly added Core emblem above the jet plate, which underlines the block's affiliation with the series and visually enhances the design. The backplate is specially adapted to the board, covers the entire back of the copper cooler and ensures a clear and uniform appearance. Combined with the aRGB lighting, the acrylic enables uniform and impressive illumination of the entire cooler.
Flow and testing
Technically, Alphacool says, the cooler has been completely redesigned. The gaps between the cooler and the PCB components were redefined and tested to optimize cooling performance. The water flow was simulated using software that Alphacool calls state-of-the-art, then verified in practical tests. These extensive tests enabled improvements to the cooler base and to the jetplate, the block's nozzle. Alphacool's claim for the series is that these coolers combine the highest quality with exceptional performance. Thanks to an optimized technical design, it says, they offer outstanding cooling performance and ensure the best possible cooling for this generation. Alphacool's data sheet credits the Core design with maximum quality and feel.
What the loop needs
The connections are four G1/4 threads. Two take the compression fittings for your tube size, which are not in the box, and the other two take the two plugs that are. The lighting runs on a voltage of 5V through a 3-pin JST power connection, and an ARGB adapter is included. Thermal pads, thermal grease, a putty tool, a plug tool, a screwdriver and the PCIe bracket complete the box.

Notes
- Alphacool asks that the block be used only with clear transparent water cooling fluids. It warns that the particles and additives in Pastel liquids can clog and permanently damage a radiator, a pump, a cooler or the hoses, and that this can void the manufacturer's warranty.
- Remove the original cooler on an antistatic mat and clean the card of thermal paste and pad residues before fitting the block.
