The HEATKILLER IV series

Watercool's motto for the line is "made from enthusiasts for enthusiasts". It calls the water coolers of its HEATKILLER® CPU series among the most popular and top-selling CPU water coolers. Ever since the 2001 launch of the first HEATKILLER CPU water cooler, the series has been improved and optimized constantly. So far, the HEATKILLER® IV presents the most extensive alterations.

Cooling structure and flow

The new cooling structure was the focus of innovation. Its finer micro fins greatly enlarge the contact surface between cooling liquid and cooler, and the flow characteristics became optimized as well. Together these changes increased the cooling performance by up to 3 °C compared to the predecessor. Supported by large-volume receptacles, the flow efficiency of the block benefits too. The block features what Watercool calls a real high flow design, making it perfectly suitable also for lower performing pumps.

By the way, the structure does completely without a separate jet plate: its mechanics now sit directly in the top. That improves the cooler's reliability, because less dust particles can accumulate within the cooling structure.

EasyMount and fittings

The HEATKILLER® IV also comes up with an improved feature set, and that set includes the comfortable Easy-Mount-System. After initial installation, the cooler can be mounted or de-mounted tool-free at any time, without the need to dismount the mainboard as well. The mounting brackets now precisely define the contact pressure, and thus mounting errors virtually do not appear when the studs and knurled nuts are tightened evenly and crosswise.

If you prefer big fittings, you will be glad to hear that the distance between the two G1/4 threads is now enlarged to 25 mm. This makes the block compatible with all common thread types up to the size of 19/13. Two ports means two fittings: 16/10 compression fittings or 19/13 compression fittings both fit.

The HEATKILLER® IV is a product "made in Germany", manufactured on state-of-the-art CNC machines at the Watercool headquarters in Waren.

• Watercool's manual has a page of important information on the orientation of the block on the CPU, which you should read before you mount.
• Use the correct washers at the positions the manual shows: a metal washer between spring and mounting bracket, and the plastic spacer (4 mm on AM4, 5 mm on AM5).
