Quick Overview

Water coolers from the HEATKILLER® CPU series are among the most popular and top-selling CPU water coolers. Ever since the launch of the first HEATKILLER® CPU water cooler in 2001, the series has been constantly improved and optimized. The HEATKILLER® IV presents the most extensive alterations, so far.

Details

The HEATKILLER IV series

"Made from enthusiasts for enthusiasts" is how Watercool sums up the line. It counts the water coolers of its HEATKILLER® CPU series among the most popular and top-selling CPU water coolers on the market. Ever since the first HEATKILLER CPU water cooler had its launch in 2001, the series has been constantly improved and optimized. So far, the HEATKILLER® IV presents the most extensive alterations, and Watercool calls it the most comprehensive and recent iteration of the franchise.

  • Now even more powerful: up to 3 °C temperature decrease compared to its predecessor, from a completely revised cooling structure
  • Real high flow design: higher flow performance, thanks to a bigger jet structure and receptacles, and less clogging
  • Improved reliability: no separate jet plate, the jet is integrated directly into the cooler now
  • Mounting is a child's play: the tool-free Easy-Mount-System
  • Improved fittings compatibility: a thread distance of 25 mm makes 16/10 and 19/13 fittings possible

Cooling structure and flow paths

The focus of innovation was the new cooling structure, the cooling engine that took the biggest evolutionary step. Its finer micro fins on the cold plate greatly enlarge the contact surface of cooling liquid and cooler, for better heat dissipation. Flow characteristics became optimized as well, and Watercool made sure the thinner fins do not cost flow rate. These changes increased the cooling performance by up to 3 °C compared to the predecessor.

Supported by large-volume receptacles, the flow efficiency benefits too. Watercool says the block features a real high flow design, making it perfectly suitable also for lower performing pumps. By the way, the cooling structure completely does without a jet plate: its mechanics sit directly in the top. That improves the cooler's reliability, because less dust particles can accumulate within the cooling structure.

EasyMount and fittings

The HEATKILLER® IV also comes up with an improved feature set, which includes the comfortable Easy-Mount-System. After initial installation, you can have the cooler mounted or de-mounted tool-free at any time, without the need to dismount the mainboard as well. The mounting brackets do now precisely define the contact pressure, with a fixed stop of the installation bolts, thus mounting errors virtually do not appear.

If you prefer big fittings, you will be glad to hear that the distance between the G1/4 threads is now enlarged to 25 mm. This makes the block compatible with all common thread types, up to the size of 19/13, which Watercool also puts as fittings of up to 19 mm width. Two ports take two fittings, for example 16/10 compression fittings or 19/13 compression fittings.

The HEATKILLER® IV is a product "made in Germany", manufactured on state-of-the-art CNC machines at the Watercool headquarters in Waren. Many steps are done by hand, and each block is finished under the dual control principle.

Options

The same PRO block in bare copper, top and base, is the HEATKILLER IV PRO (AMD, AM4, AM5) PURE COPPER (18012). Spare screws for it come as the Replacement Screw Set for HEATKILLER IV CPU Block (18050), and more blocks for these sockets are in our AMD CPU blocks category.

Notes

  • Watercool's manual has a page of important information on the orientation of the block on the CPU; read it before you mount.
  • Use the correct washers at the positions the manual shows: a metal washer between spring and mounting bracket, plus the plastic spacer (4 mm on AM4, 5 mm on AM5). Tighten the studs and knurled nuts evenly and crosswise.
