The HEATKILLER IV series

Watercool sums up the series as made from enthusiasts for enthusiasts. It counts its HEATKILLER® CPU water coolers among the best performing, most popular and top-selling CPU blocks on the market. Ever since the launch of the first one in 2001, the series has been constantly improved and optimized. In Watercool's words the HEATKILLER® IV is the most comprehensive and recent iteration of the franchise, and it presents the most extensive alterations so far. What is new on the IV:

  • Now even more powerful: up to 3 °C better cooling, a temperature decrease compared to its predecessor from a completely revised cooling structure
  • A real high flow design, with higher flow performance and less clogging thanks to bigger jet structure, receptacles and channel layout
  • Improved reliability, because the cooling structure works without a jet plate: the jet is now integrated directly into the cooler
  • Mounting is child's play with the tool-free Easy-Mount-System
  • Improved fittings compatibility, with 16/10 and 19/13 fittings possible thanks to a thread distance of 25 mm

New cooling engine and optimized flow paths

The focus of innovation was the new cooling structure, where the cooling engine took its biggest step. Finer micro fins greatly enlarge the contact surface between cooling liquid and cooler, for better heat dissipation. Flow characteristics became optimized as well, so the flow rate isn't impacted by the finer fins, and Watercool says these changes increased the cooling performance.

Flow efficiency benefits too, supported by large-volume receptacles. Watercool calls the result a real high flow design, making the block perfectly suitable also for lower performing pumps.

The new cooling structure also does without a separate jet plate; its mechanics sit directly in the top. Fewer dust particles can accumulate within the cooling structure that way, and Watercool says this improves performance, flow rate and reliability.

Easy-Mount, fittings and manufacturing

The HEATKILLER® IV comes with an improved feature set, which includes the comfortable Easy-Mount-System among its features. Watercool calls it revolutionary and developed it to simplify the installation process. After initial installation, the cooler can be mounted or de-mounted tool-free at any time, without the need to dismount the mainboard as well.

The mounting brackets now precisely define the contact pressure with a fixed stop of the installation bolts, thus mounting errors virtually do not appear. That pressure follows the CPU maker's specifications; tighten the studs and knurled nuts evenly and crosswise with the included mounting material.

If you prefer big fittings, you will be glad to hear of the enlarged distance between the G1/4 threads, which is now 25 mm. Watercool took care of customers' requests: this makes the block compatible with all common thread types and fittings up to the size of 19/13, or 19 mm width.

The design should also be worthy of a WATERCOOL product, and Watercool says only the highest quality raw materials with the most cutting edge manufacturing technologies make a true HEATKILLER IV. The HEATKILLER® IV is a product "made in Germany": every part is manufactured on state-of-the-art CNC machines at the Watercool headquarters in Waren, Germany. Many steps of the process are manual labor, and each product is finished under the dual control principle.
