The GPU on the Radeon 7970 and 7950 are recessed slightly behind the surrounding frame. Hence GPU only water blocks cannot achieve contact with the GPU, resulting in very bad thermal transfer which makes operation of the graphics card unsafe.

This problem is solved with the GPU spacer for 79X0 graphics cards. It bridges the gap between frame and GPU and ensures ideal thermal transfer. For installation thermal compound must be applied to both sides of the spacer! Thermal compound is not included with the spacer.

The spacer must only be used with GPU-only water blocks (e.g. HEATKILLER® GPU-X³ Core). Fullcover water blocks are already equipped with suitable GPU contact surfaces and do not require this spacer.
