Why cool an M.2 SSD
It's no secret that modern M.2 NVMe SSDs in particular get hot when in demanding use, so the speed of the drive has to be slowed down. To counteract this problem and get full performance, the Grizzly professionals have developed a compact passive cooling solution for next generation form factor SSDs. Thermal Grizzly says it significantly reduces the temperatures of an M.2 SSD, and lower temperatures reduce the speed limitations.
The cooler in detail
Thermal Grizzly calls the design sophisticated. It consists of a front cover and a backplate as well as two matching Minus Pad 8 thermal pads, one 0.5 mm thick and one 1 mm thick. The cooler is aluminum, and Thermal Grizzly describes the installation as easy. We also sell Minus Pad 8 on its own, in 120 x 20 mm strips at 0.5 mm and 1.0 mm.
Compatibility at a glance
- Note that the cooler is only compatible with one-sided M.2 NVMe SSDs. It fits all of those that are 22 mm in width and 80 mm in length, the 80 millimeter long 2280 size.
- M.2 (NGFF) connectors with a height of 4.2 millimeters must be used, so check that the connector is 4.2 mm high.
