Details
Thermal Grizzly's Lapping-Tool for Intel's 13th/14th Gen processors is a clear acrylic guide that lets the heat spreader be safely lapped by a set amount. On an AMD chip? The Ryzen 7000 version is here.

How it works
The CPU is simply mounted on the tool using the enclosed screws. On the acrylic glass around the CPU there are ridges, and these ridges are 0.2 millimeters high. That is the amount the tool allows: its tolerances allow the heat spreader to be ground down by that much and no more. Stop sanding when the ridges are completely removed.
It simplifies CPU sanding and comes as a complete set with sandpaper: one sheet each in grit sizes 400, 1200 and 2,500 is included. Single use is recommended. Thermal Grizzly says the tool can be reused, with special care to avoid removing too much material from the IHS.
Compatibility
For Intel Core 13th/14th Gen (compatible with 12th Gen): Intel 12th Generation Core CPUs fit the tool too. Processors of the 12th and 13th generation are compatible with both the 12th Gen and the 13th and 14th Gen Contact Frame as long as they are not ground down more than 0.2 millimeters.
Attention
- Grinding the CPU will invalidate the warranty, so please note that before you start.
- The base plate of the CPU cooler should also be ground, to ensure the largest possible contact surface between it and the IHS (the latter is the heat spreader).
