The Aquacomputer ULTITUBE D5 100 PRO LEAKSHIELD Reservoir with D5 NEXT Pump (34140) is a tube reservoir of approx. 230 ml with a D5 NEXT pump installed directly in its base, combined with a LEAKSHIELD leak prevention system. It comes as a combination consisting of expansion tank and leakshield, with G1/4 connection threads, a 65 mm borosilicate glass tube 100 mm long and an RGBpx LED ring.

Borosilicate glass reservoir

Like every ULTITUBE, the expansion tank uses borosilicate glass instead of the acrylic glass often used for tube reservoirs. Aquacomputer credits it with a very high hardness and scratch resistance, very low thermal expansion and excellent chemical and thermal resistance. The tube has an outer diameter of 65 mm and a 5 mm wall, and black anodized aluminum rings bonded to its ends stay out of contact with the coolant. The base and the lid of the reservoir are made of acetal. In the ULTITUBE series, the number 50/100/150/200 in the product name refers to the length of the glass tube in millimeters. In addition, a stainless steel mesh filter element integrated in the base reduces air bubbles as well as particles, and is easy to clean under running water, for example.

PRO version: LED ring and fixation ring

The PRO version is rounded off with an impressive RGBpx-compatible LED ring with 13 addressable LEDs. It slides over the tube to any height. It can be easily connected to the D5 NEXT pump with the 50 cm RGBpx cable in the box. Its connector marked "IN" takes the cable, and further RGBpx components can be daisy chained on "OUT". A rubber fixation ring with a stainless steel insert slips over the top onto the glass tube, for additional, vibration dampening fixation of the upper area of the reservoir.

LEAKSHIELD leak prevention

Aquacomputer says the LEAKSHIELD actively prevents leaks and continuously monitors the coolant loop, so the user almost no longer needs to worry about the tightness of the water cooling. Thanks to its negative pressure across the whole loop, the LEAKSHIELD actively protects against leaks: if one opens, ambient air is sucked in instead, which means no more coolant leaks out of the system. The air that enters is then pumped out of the system by the integrated vacuum pump, keeping the vacuum up. The amount of negative pressure can be adjusted to the installed coolant pump, so it reaches everywhere in the system. Of course, it does not protect against major damage, such as torn tubes or a completely separated tube.

Even before the water cooling system is put into operation for the first time, the LEAKSHIELD checks the system for leaks by creating a vacuum. In leak tester mode the system is then checked for pressure changes by an integrated, highly accurate pressure sensor. Even very small leaks show up, and the leak rate can be displayed in ml/h. From the changes in pressure and the volume of pumped air, the unit also calculates the current fill level of the reservoir. It can simplify filling too, by drawing the coolant directly from the bottle through an optional suction line, without splashing and spills.

D5 NEXT pump

The Aqua Computer D5 NEXT pump is installed directly into the base of the reservoir. Its key features, in short:

• Laing D5 motor with ceramic bearing, chosen by Aquacomputer for optimum durability and smoothness
• Controller unit that pulls off for easy access to the electrical connectors
• High resolution OLED display and integrated buttons, so it can be operated even without a PC
• Integrated RGBpx illumination for light effects and alarm indication, plus an alarm buzzer for acoustic alarms
• Water temperature sensor integrated in the pump
• PWM fan output with up to 25 watts and speed monitoring, usable as a flow sensor input instead
• Versatile control options, with eight further values transferable from the PC using the aquasuite software
• RGBpx LED output for up to 90 addressable LEDs, or alternatively an aquabus interface for an aquaero 5/6
• Power supply via SATA connector, USB 2.0 interface, firmware updates via USB

What the loop needs

The pump takes a SATA power plug from the PC's power supply unit. Each unit has its own internal USB cable (two are in the box): the D5 NEXT needs USB only for data, while the LEAKSHIELD draws its 5 V supply from USB. Connect the return line to the connector engraved "IN" and the other line to the remaining one, using light force only on the plastic threads. Fittings are not part of the scope of delivery: order suitable G1/4 ones from our fittings section. A flow sensor such as the high flow 2 (53292) can go on the fan output.

The LEAKSHIELD only works if the maximum pump pressure in the system is less than 450 mbar, which is the case for almost all systems with one pump; with more pumps, measure it. All components must withstand the negative pressure permanently, which applies to Aqua Computer products without exceptions. Parts from other suppliers have to be checked first. As a broad rule, PVC tubing needs an outer diameter of at least 1.5 times its inner diameter, PUR tubing about 1.2 times, and hardtubes are generally suitable. Only coolants of the Double Protect Ultra (DP Ultra) series are approved, and at least 100 ml of air should stay in the reservoir.

Mounting material for upright standing installation, for example to the bottom of the case, or lateral installation to a side/rear panel is included, with four soft rubber buffers for decoupling. Standing is preferred for stability, and the reservoir can stand directly on the pump; for additional stabilization Aquacomputer recommends the D5 NEXT bracket (34111). For a 120 mm fan mounting position, the fan bracket (34112) is sold separately. The next tube length up is the ULTITUBE D5 150 PRO LEAKSHIELD (34141).

aquasuite software

System requirements are Windows 10 or newer and an internal USB 2.0 port. Activating this product gives you the current aquasuite version with an upgrade service for at least eighteen (18) months. Once that period ends, the latest version released during it may be used and reinstalled without a time limit. The update service can optionally be extended or renewed at any time for a fee, and installation and activation need an internet connection.

Notes

• Never use coolants containing solid micro particles: they damage the D5 pump bearing, may destroy the borosilicate glass tube and can clog or even destroy the LEAKSHIELD membrane. Never use coolants with flammable substances.
• Never touch the membrane on the bottom side of the LEAKSHIELD; a damaged membrane lets moisture in and can make the unit fail.
• To keep the LEAKSHIELD running while the PC is in standby, set the USB port in the BIOS so its power supply stays on, or use an external USB power supply.
• The display orientation changes only by rotating the whole pump: drain the coolant completely and remove the controller unit before loosening the mounting ring.
• Never let the pump run dry.
