The cuplex kryos NEXT family
Aquacomputer says the cuplex kryos NEXT represents a new milestone in the development of CPU water coolers. By its account, every detail was analyzed, optimized and tested in order to achieve perfection in three areas: cooling performance, assembly and functionality. The result, it says, is not just a CPU cooler that sets new standards in cooling performance. Instead, an entire model family covers a spectrum of color and equipment variants.
Aquacomputer calls one feature of the VARIO models worldwide unique among CPU water coolers: a base plate that can be deformed during operation. Never before, it says, has a CPU cooler been able to be adjusted to an optimal fit to the CPU while the PC is running. This block is not a VARIO. It is one of the models with the VISION module, which are equipped with powerful electronics.
VISION: integrated electronics
The VISION variants have a microprocessor control and an OLED graphic display. A high-resolution display, integrated water temperature measurement and the USB interface are just three examples from their range of functions. The most important features include:
- water temperature measurement integrated in the cooler
- a connection option for a flow sensor, or alternatively an alarm output
- a USB interface to the PC
- an aquabus interface for data exchange with an aquaero 5 or 6
- configurable display pages
- display of various hardware data via the aquasuite software, e.g. the current processor load
In the acrylic versions of the cuplex kryos NEXT with VISION, an additional RGB LED is integrated for lighting, and it can be controlled depending on the temperature or via USB. With its black acetal housing, this block has no such LED.
Due to the limited space inside, a maximum of two connection cables can be routed into the block. The possible combinations are therefore:
- USB and aquabus
- USB and flow measurement or alarm output
- aquabus and flow measurement or alarm output
Base with microstructure
An extremely fine microstructure covers the base of the block, and its structure width is less than 200 µm. A flat nozzle integrated in the cooler housing sends the coolant onto the center of the microstructure. From there it flows on and is discharged in two directions, to both sides of the structure. Depending on the cooler variant, the base is made of copper, nickel plated copper or .925 sterling silver; this one is copper.
Mounting system
The mounting system consists of solid stainless steel sheets with a material thickness of 2.5 mm, into which nickel plated spring cups are pressed. Knurled screws and springs attach the block to the mainboard. Thanks to the spring cup and the low overall height, the holding system looks very tidy when installed. All bracket variants have a defined stop for optimal contact pressure and even force distribution. Each knurled screw can be fitted by hand, and an Allen key also allows for easy installation.
All water block versions for socket 1851/1700 include a steel backplate with a rubber cover, which additionally stabilizes the CPU region of the mainboard.
Thermal paste
For optimal performance, each cuplex kryos NEXT comes with 0.5 grams of what Aquacomputer calls excellent thermal paste, packed in a syringe for easy use. A plastic spatula for application is also included. Its thermal conductivity is high, and thanks to its low viscosity the paste is distributed thin and very well between the CPU and the water cooler during assembly. The quantity supplied is sufficient for approx. five assemblies of the cooler.
Color variants
Across the family, the cooler housing is available in different materials and coatings:
- Black acetal: shiny black high-tech plastic
- Acrylic glass: transparent housing with lighting option
- Copper: shiny red
- Brass, nickel plated: bright metallic shine
- Brass, PVD coated: a high quality multi layer coating with dark metallic shine
This block is the acetal/copper material combination: the housing is black acetal and the cooler base is copper.
Installation
Take the installed heat sink off the CPU and, if necessary, remove thermal grease residues from the CPU surface with benzine. Place a small drop of the supplied paste, about 4 mm (0.15 inch) in diameter, centrally on the CPU, or spread a thin layer with the plastic spatula.
Arrange the backplate and black insulation mat below the processor socket. From the mounting kit, slide a plastic washer onto each retention bolt, then screw the bolts through the four mounting holes of the mainboard into the backplate. Set the block on the CPU in the orientation the manual shows, slide a spring onto each bolt and secure each with a knurled head screw. Tighten the four screws alternately, a fraction of a revolution at a time, until the block is mounted and all are fully fastened.
What the loop needs
The block has two G1/4 connection threads, so it takes two fittings from our fittings section. Coolant must be supplied through the central fitting for best cooling performance, because a reversed flow direction significantly decreases it. For corrosion inhibition, Aquacomputer requires Double Protect Ultra as the coolant.
What you need to connect it
There are no cables in the scope of delivery. A USB connection uses the internal USB connection cable for VISION (53215). An aquaero 5 or 6, for example the aquaero 6 LT, connects with the aquabus cable for VISION (53214). Cables for a flow sensor or the alarm output are in our VISION CPU accessories.
aquasuite software
Activating this product gets you the current version of the aquasuite software, with an upgrade service for at least six (6) months. Once that expires, you may keep using and reinstalling the latest version released during the upgrade period, without a time limit. The update service can optionally be extended or renewed at any time for a fee. Installing and activating aquasuite needs an internet connection.

Notes
- Run the water cooling system first with no other PC components connected to the mains supply, and check the block and fittings for leakages.
- A component that has been in contact with coolant must be completely dry before it goes into operation.
