Details
The Aquacomputer Cuplex Kryos NEXT 2011/2011-3/2066, Nickel/Nickel (21601) is a CPU water block for Intel socket 2011, 2011-3 and 2066. Its top part is nickel plated brass and its base is nickel plated copper. It mounts on the back plate that is already part of the CPU socket, and its two G1/4 connection threads sit 28 mm apart.

A series with many models
Aquacomputer says the cuplex kryos NEXT marks a new milestone in CPU water block development. By its account, every detail was analyzed, optimized and tested to achieve perfection in cooling performance, installation procedure and product features. The result, it says, is not just one CPU water block with outstanding performance but a product series, its various models differing in color and functionality.
Aquacomputer says its VARIO models are the first CPU water blocks globally to incorporate a real-time adjustable base. Never before, it adds, has it been possible to adjust the geometry of a CPU block to perfectly fit the CPU while the PC is in operation. Models with the VISION module carry modern electronics: a high resolution OLED display, an integrated water temperature sensor and a USB interface are just three of their features. This block has neither the VARIO base nor the VISION module. With lighting, the same sockets are served by the cuplex kryos NEXT RGBpx, acrylic/nickel (21801).
Base part with micro structure
An extremely fine micro structure covers the base part, and its structural width is lower than 200 µm. The coolant is injected centrally by a slot-shaped nozzle, and from there it runs out to both sides of the structure. Depending on model, the base itself is manufactured from copper, nickel plated copper or .925 sterling silver. On this one the material combination is nickel/nickel: the top part is nickel plated brass, the base nickel plated copper.
Retention system
The retention system consists of stainless steel plates, 2.5 mm thick and equipped with nickel plated spring cups. Springs and knurled screws secure the block on the motherboard, and when installed it has a very clean look. A mechanical stop is a feature of all retention system versions, giving optimum clamping force and even force distribution. The knurled screws turn by hand, and a hexagon socket wrench can additionally be used for easy installation.
Socket 2011/2066 motherboards already have a back plate as part of the CPU socket, therefore no additional back plate is required for this block. Only the blocks for socket 115x or AM3 include a steel back plate with silicone insulation, which is there to stabilize the CPU region of the motherboard.
Thermal compound
For optimum performance, Aquacomputer ships every cuplex kryos NEXT with what it calls outstanding thermal compound. A syringe holding 0.5 grams is included, complete with a plastic spatula. The compound has a high thermal conductivity, and due to its low viscosity it spreads out thin and evenly between CPU and water block. That amount is sufficient for approximately five applications, according to Aquacomputer.
Color variants
Across the series, the top part of the water block is available in these materials and coatings:
- Acetal black, a shiny black high-tech plastic
- Acrylic glass, a transparent body suitable for illumination
- Copper, with a reddish gloss
- Nickel plated brass, with a bright metallic gloss
- PVD plated brass, a high quality multi layer coating with a dark metallic gloss
Installation
Take the old CPU cooler off and, if necessary, clean thermal grease residues from the CPU surface with benzine. Put a small drop of the supplied grease, about 4 mm across, in the center of the CPU, or spread a thin layer of it with the plastic spatula.
Set the block on the CPU in the orientation the manual pictures. Place one spring into each recess and pass a knurled screw through each spring into the anchor threads of the CPU socket, only one or two revolutions at first. Then tighten the four screws alternately, a fraction of a revolution at a time, until all of them are fully fastened.
What the loop needs
Both connection threads are G1/4, so the block takes two fittings from our fittings section. Supply the coolant through the central fitting for best cooling performance, because a reversed flow direction significantly decreases it. For corrosion inhibition, Aquacomputer requires Double Protect Ultra as the coolant.

Notes
- Run the water cooling system first with no other PC components connected to the mains supply, and check the block and the fittings for leakages.
- A component that has been in contact with coolant must be completely dry again before it goes into operation.
