The Alphacool Shroud & Decoupling 120mm is a soft silicone fan shroud for 120 mm fans, 7 mm thick, with four M3x37mm screws, one shroud per pack. It sits between the fan and the cooling fins of the radiator, where it optimizes the airflow to increase the cooling performance. In addition, it decouples the fans, which Alphacool says leads to a significant reduction in noise.

Optimization of the airflow
Mounting the fan directly on the radiator creates a dead spot below the fan hub, and the corners suffer too. Even there, at the corners of the radiator which are not directly covered by the fan blades, little air movement gets through the cooling fins. By mounting the shroud you increase the distance between fan blades and radiator, and this allows an air cushion to build up in the intermediate area. The dead area below the fan shaft is eliminated, and the corners of the radiator see more airflow also. Alphacool says the cooling performance can be increased noticeably, and that this is especially so with silent fans with low speed.
Decoupling and noise reduction
Soft fan shrouds like this one decouple the fans from the radiator frame as far as possible. As a result, hardly any vibrations are transmitted to the frame, and the noise level is reduced. The greater distance of the fans from the cooling fins also ensures less direct air turbulence at the fan edges and radiator fins, which contributes to the lower noise.
What the fan needs
The shroud takes a fan from our 120mm fans section and goes between it and the radiator. The four M3x37mm screws are in the box. For a 140 mm fan there is the 140mm version.
