The Alphacool Eiswolf 2 AIO - 360mm RTX 3090 TI Founders Edition with Backplate is an AIO liquid cooler for a graphics card. It is built for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Founders Edition. Alphacool also lists two Inno3D cards for it, the iChill Frostbite and the X3 OC. It joins a full cover GPU water block, a pump, tubes, a 360 mm radiator and three 120 mm fans in one prefilled unit, and the backplate for the card is in the box.

The cooler was designed for one PCB layout, and card makers sometimes revise a board so that a cooler no longer fits later models. Before ordering, compare your card and its PCB number with the pictures in Alphacool's GPU Configurator, or look it up in its Compatibility List for Nvidia cards. The block in this AIO is based on Alphacool's Eisblock Aurora Acryl GPX-N RTX 3090TI Founders Edition, and we carry that block on its own for a custom loop.

Fullcover waterblock

Alphacool introduces the Eiswolf 2 as its first full cover GPU AIO waterblock. It is based on the GPX Eisblock Aurora water block, a pump unit and a 360mm NexXxoS ST30 full copper radiator. The latter comes equipped with three of Alphacool's Aurora Rise Digital RGB fans. Full cover means the liquid cools not only the GPU but also all relevant components that require active cooling. This includes the graphics memory, the VRM and, if necessary, any other parts that need direct cooling. By using the Eisblock GPX Aurora water cooler, Alphacool says, the cooling capacity is identical to that of a DIY graphics card water cooler.

Pump

A pump unit sits in place of the normal connection terminal of the block, and it houses the DC-LT 2 pump. Alphacool calls that pump an improved and quieter version of its well-known DC-LT Low Noise Ceramic Pump. Despite looking rather large, the unit is only 5 mm wider than a normal terminal.

Fittings and tubing

As with all its new AIO units, Alphacool uses only TPV hoses from its Enterprise Solution range, usually reserved for servers and workstations. The tubing is made of EPDM/PP, and Alphacool describes the hoses as extremely heat-resistant, durable and free of plasticizers. All fittings are also based on that range, so they match the hoses perfectly, in Alphacool's words. Two are straight and two are 90° fittings, all of them brass.

Lighting and fans

The cooler has digital RGB LED lighting, also called addressable RGB LEDs. The LEDs run along the entire back of the graphics card cooler and provide complete illumination of the water cooler. The pump unit is more discreet: it offers a green glowing logo for Nvidia cards and a red glowing logo for AMD cards. The name "Eiswolf" on it remains unlit, discreetly in the background.

The fan used is the Alphacool Aurora Rise with 120mm, a Digital RGB fan whose addressable LEDs give what Alphacool calls brilliant illumination. Due to the special blade design it is extremely quiet, according to Alphacool. Alphacool says the fan convinces with a max. static pressure of 3.17mm/H2O and offers a max. air flow of 119.8m3/h. The PWM control allows it to be controlled over a wide speed range and, in addition, offers a zero control. The fan can therefore be regulated down to 0 rpm and then starts again with approx. 350 rpm. The radiator carries its three fans on one side, and it takes six when both of its two sides are used.

NexXxoS radiator

As with all its AIO units, Alphacool uses a radiator from the NexXxoS series, which it calls world renowned. Its claim is that full copper radiators offer a much higher cooling capacity than aluminum radiators. It adds that they have contributed significantly to Alphacool's worldwide success. The cooling fins, chambers and channels here are copper, the threads brass and the outer housing stainless steel. The combination of all of the components results, Alphacool says, in a solution that is as simple to install as an AIO solution. It promises the performance of a pre-assembled and prefilled custom loop with it.

How to connect everything

The loop comes filled and closed, so it needs no fittings of your own. The fans use a 4-Pin PWM connector, and the Y-adapter in the box brings all three to one header on the mainboard. The lighting has a 3-Pin JST plug, and the included adapter takes it to a 3-Pin 5V header or to a digital RGB controller. Alphacool's manual shows three possibilities for connecting the lighting, one of them its Aurora Eiscontrol controller, which is not included. The digital RGB LEDs need no more than 5V supply voltage. For the pump, the manual says to make sure the voltage is set to 12V in the BIOS, which is not necessary for PWM connections.

Expandability

By using the quick-release fastener in the tubes, the cooler can be connected to another Alphacool AIO unit to achieve a larger loop in seconds. Alphacool offers various prefilled components with which the loop can be easily extended. For safety reasons the quick-release fasteners are firmly screwed together and not just plugged together. The manual notes that one or two drops of coolant may leak out when they are opened. The radiator also has a fillport.

Notes

• Technical note from Alphacool: due to long storage times and various transport routes, the liquid in the AIO remains still for a long time. Its ingredients can therefore deposit and lead to a brownish discoloration. As soon as the pump starts operating they mix again, and the liquid should regain an approximately clear color. Alphacool says this is not a reason for complaint, as neither the performance nor the function of the AIO are restricted by this. If the discoloration of the cooling liquid does not disappear after the AIO has been put into operation, Alphacool writes: "please contact our support team via E-Mail ([email protected])". It says you will receive quick and uncomplicated help there.
• Additional note from the manufacturer: when you refill or extend the loop, please use only clear transparent water cooling fluids in conjunction with it. Alphacool warns that the particles and additives in Pastel liquids can clog and permanently damage water cooling products such as radiators, pumps, coolers and hoses. This can result in voiding the manufacturer's warranty as well.
• Remove the original cooler on an antistatic mat and clean the card of thermal paste and pad residues before fitting the cooler.
• Alphacool's manual for the block notes that the NV-Link connector cannot be plugged into the graphics card, because of the position of the terminal.
