Alphacool Eisblock XPX Aurora Edge - Full Brass Black Digital RGB (13082)

The Alphacool Eisblock XPX Aurora Edge - Full Brass Black Digital RGB is a CPU water block for Intel LGA 1150, 1151, 1200, 1700, 1851, 2011 and 2011-3 and AMD AM3, AM3+, AM4 and AM5. Except for its nickel plated copper cooler bottom the block is made entirely of brass, in black with a matte finish. Two digital aRGB LEDs sit behind the logo.

Fit

The sockets above are Alphacool's current compatibility list for this block. The box holds an Intel mounting kit and an AMD mounting kit, each described by Alphacool as "backplate, screws, etc.". Its manual, which covers every Eisblock XPX, has mounting chapters for LGA 115x, 1200, 1700/1851 and AM4 / AM5. It also still has one for LGA 2066, a socket the current list leaves out.

On LGA 115x, 1200 and 1700/1851 the manual has you remove the protective film from the backplate and fix it to the back of the mainboard with its tape. Take the protective film off the cooler plate as well, then apply the thermal grease. The screws go through the springs, the washers and the holder, and are tightened hand-tight only, without tools.

Performance in overflow!

Alphacool describes the Eisblock XPX Aurora Edge as a powerful CPU cooler that shows its strength especially on multi-core processors with 4, 6, 8, 12 and more CPU cores. The total area of the cooling channels on the CPU cooler base is 34 x 32 mm. This means that the cooler also copes with large CPU DIEs.

The block has a special injection technology that was developed and patented by Alphacool itself. The so-called "ramp system" is located in front of the nozzle plate and ensures an even flow of water within the cooler. The water is pressed through the nozzle plate in a controlled manner and distributed evenly over the cooler base. That bottom, which Alphacool's text calls the radiator bottom, itself has 81 cooling fins with a fin structure of only 0.2 mm per fin. In this way, the largest possible surface area has been created in the available space in order to dissipate the CPU's waste heat to the water as quickly as possible.

Discreet appearance

The matte finish gives the cooler what Alphacool calls a noble look. This makes it interesting for users who prefer a discreet appearance and want to do without a complex aRGB illumination. Behind the Alphacool logo, 2 digitally addressable 5V RGB LEDs are installed. Alphacool says they create a unique, very noble-looking illumination.

Thermal grease

The thermal paste included in the delivery is Alphacool's Subzero with a thermal conductivity of 16 W/mk, and a spatula comes with it. Alphacool says the electrically non-conductive thermal grease is particularly suitable for high contact pressures, but can still be processed perfectly due to its viscosity of 850000 TF.

What the loop needs

The block has two G1/4 threads. Each takes one of the compression fittings for your tube size, which are not in the box. The digital aRGB LED lighting is connected via a JST 3-pin connector. To control the digital RGB lighting, the enclosed adapter must be connected to the 3-pin female connector and to a digital RGB controller or a digital RGB-capable mainboard. As one such controller the manual names the Aurora Eiscontrol, which is not included. Additional digital RGB LEDs can be connected to the remaining 3-pin male connector. As a CPU water cooler, the block needs a pump and a radiator in the same loop to run.

• Alphacool's note on application: use only clear, transparent water cooling fluids. The particles and additives in Pastel liquids can clog and permanently damage water cooling products such as radiators, pumps, coolers and hoses, which can also void the manufacturer's warranty.
