Quick Overview

The Alphacool Eisblock Aurora Acrylic GPX graphics card water cooler with backplate combines style with performance.

Details

The Alphacool Eisblock Aurora Acryl GPX-N RTX 3070TI Founders Edition with Backplate is a GPU water block for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Founders Edition graphics card. It cools the card with a nickel-plated copper block under an acrylic top, and the black aluminum backplate is in the box.

Compatibility

Alphacool lists these cards for this block:

  • Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Founders Edition, 8GB GDDR6X (900-1G143-2515-000)

The block was built for one PCB layout, and Alphacool's manual warns that card makers occasionally revise a design so that the cooler no longer fits later models. That is the NVIDIA card with HDMI and 3x DP outputs. Before ordering, compare your card and its PCB number with the pictures in Alphacool's GPU Configurator, or look it up in its Compatibility List for Nvidia cards.

More performance

During development, Alphacool says, emphasis was naturally placed on increasing performance, and it names three steps. First, the cooler was brought closer to the individual components by reducing the thickness of the heat conducting pads. Next, the nickel-plated copper block was also made thinner. Step 3 involves the constant optimization of the water flow within the cooler. The result, by Alphacool's account: all important components such as voltage converters and RAM are cooled much better and more effectively by the water, and the cooling performance increases significantly.

Design and lighting

The addressable digital RGB LEDs are embedded directly in the cooling block and run along the sides of the entire cooler, and the effect is an illumination that engulfs the entire cooling block. Alphacool says no corner or edge is left unlit by the aRGB LEDs. The new design is more angular, with all edges beveled. Light diffusion in the water cooler is better due to the reflections on these bevels. The bevels also create various contours that, in Alphacool's words, give the cooler its very own visual touch, a brilliant design.

Copper or aluminum?

Alphacool only uses copper in its water coolers, and in the case of this one the copper is nickel-plated. Compared to the previous models, however, it has once again improved the type of nickel plating, which it says has significantly increased the acid resistance. This should prevent the nickel plating from flaking off. Why does Alphacool use copper instead of aluminum? Its answer is that copper has almost twice the thermal conductivity of aluminum and is therefore clearly the better material for water cooling.

Other special features

The GPU cooler has Alphacool's patented screw plugs, which sit flush with the surface of the terminal. The Alphacool logo sits in the corner on the top and is fully illuminated. On the front of the terminal, corresponding designations of the compatible graphics card manufacturers can be seen, and of course the addressable digital LEDs fully illuminate these too. IN and OUT are marked by small discreet triangles. Alphacool says they are easily recognizable and fit perfectly into the overall visual line of the graphics card water cooler.

Alphacool presents the Eisblock Aurora Acrylic GPX graphics card water cooler as one that combines style with performance. It says extreme cooling performance and an extensive digital RGB lighting characterize it. Its claim is that experience and technical know-how from more than a decade have gone into the development, without making any technical compromises. It calls the Eisblock Aurora Acryl GPX a significant evolution of its previous graphics card water cooler, which has been improved in every area.

What the loop needs

The block has four G1/4 threads. Two take the compression fittings for your tube size, which are not in the box, and the other two take the two screw plugs that are, fitted with the enclosed plug tool. The lighting connects through a 3-Pin JST plug: the included digital-RGB adapter goes between the block's 3-pin female connector and a digital RGB controller, which is not included. Additional digital RGB LEDs can be connected to the adapter's remaining 3-pin male connector. Thermal pads, thermal grease, screws and washers also come with the block.

Notes

  • Alphacool's note on application: please use the block only in conjunction with clear transparent water cooling fluids. Pastel liquids carry particles and additives that can clog and permanently damage water cooling products such as radiators, pumps, coolers and hoses. Alphacool adds that this can result in voiding the manufacturer's warranty as well.
  • Remove the original cooler on an antistatic mat, then clean the card of thermal paste or pad residues with a solvent such as isopropanol alcohol before fitting the block.
  • Hand-tighten the card's screws crosswise, one turn at a time.
