The Alphacool Core Geforce RTX 5080 Gamerock + Phantom Waterblock with Backplate is a GPU water block for Palit GameRock and Gainward Phantom graphics cards with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 or RTX 5070 Ti. The Palit GeForce RTX 5080 GameRock OC and the Gainward GeForce RTX 5080 Phantom GS are two of them. A chrome-plated copper block under an acrylic top cools the card, and the aluminum backplate is in the box.

The block was built for one PCB layout. A card maker may revise a board slightly, and the cooler then no longer fits the later model. So match your card and its PCB number against the pictures in Alphacool's GPU configurator, or find the card in its Compatibility List for Nvidia cards, before you order.

Copper block and terminal

At the heart of the cooler is a copper block, milled precisely from a single piece. It is complemented by a precisely crafted brass terminal with a nylon cover. The copper has a chrome finish, which Alphacool says enhances the copper cooler's durability. It also says the finish provides a smoother, more radiant surface than traditional nickel plating. The series continues to feature high-quality brass connectors, and Alphacool says these ensure optimal quality and safety.

Design and lighting

Alphacool introduces the block within its new series of graphics card water coolers for the latest Nvidia GeForce RTX generation, as part of the Core product series. Alphacool has slightly modified the visual design of the GPU water cooler. The new highlight is a Core emblem placed above the jetplate. It emphasizes the block's affiliation with the series and visually enhances the design. The backplate is specially adapted to the card and covers the entire backside of the copper cooler, ensuring a clear and uniform appearance. Combined with the aRGB lighting, the acrylic allows for even and impressive illumination of the entire cooler.

Flow and testing

Alphacool says the cooler has been completely overhauled technically. The distances between the cooler and the components of the PCB were redefined and tested to optimize cooling performance. The water flow was simulated using the most advanced software, Alphacool says, and verified through practical tests. Those extensive tests allowed for improvements to both the cooler base and the jetplate. Alphacool's claim for the series is that these coolers combine the highest quality with exceptional performance. Thanks to an optimized technical design, it says, they deliver outstanding cooling performance and the best possible cooling for the new generation.

What the loop needs

The block has four G1/4 threads. Two take the compression fittings for your tube size, which are not in the box. The other two take the two plugs that are. The lighting connects through a 3-Pin JST plug, and an ARGB adapter is included. Thermal pads, thermal grease, a putty tool, a plug tool, a screwdriver and the PCIe bracket also come with the block.

Notes

• Run the block only with clear, transparent water cooling fluids, Alphacool asks. It warns that the particles and additives in Pastel liquids can clog and permanently damage radiators, pumps, coolers and hoses, which can also void the manufacturer's warranty.
• Per the manual, the original cooler comes off on an antistatic mat, and thermal paste and pad residues are cleaned from the card with a solvent such as isopropanol alcohol.
• During assembly, make sure taller parts on the card have enough space around them.
