Details

Those who have assembled their own gaming PCs at the beginning of the 2000s can perhaps still remember the countless cases of defective CPUs à la AMD Athlon XP, whose silicon cores had been broken off by incorrect placement of the CPU cooler during assembly at the corners. In order to avoid such a high death rate of otherwise perfectly functioning processors, especially for less experienced users, in subsequent CPU generations, starting with the AMD Athlon 64 and Intel Pentium III, a metal heatspreader was added to the CPU package for simplified handling of the cooler mounting which has since successfully protected the CPU die from damage.

This mostly nickel-plated copper integrated heatspreader (IHS) transfers the heat from the chip to the CPU cooler and distributes the thermal energy generated during operation over a larger footprint than what the pure silicon itself would provide. However, there is a thermal interface material (TIM) between heatspreader and silicon chip, which at Intel since the Ivy Bridge generation from 2012 no longer consists of solder, but from a standard thermal grease, which also replaced in all subsequent CPU series, the solder and thus greatly hampered by their relatively low thermal conductivity heat dissipation and thus excessive overclocking.

How powerful the CPU cooling is dimensioned, does not matter, because the heat accumulation is already caused inside the processor package. So that such a CPU can be sufficiently cooled even with pronounced overclocking, brave enthusiasts and extreme overclockers unceremoniously disconnect the heatspreader with a sharp razor blade or similar utensils. However, great care should be taken and a lot of tact is needed to avoid mutilating vital components for the CPU at the same time. Even for professional overclockers with a lot of experience, this radical method is not yet feasible without risk.

Derwauer Delid The Mate WS 3647 at a Glance:

  • Handy tool for removing (heaving) the heatspreader of a CPU
  • Fast, light and above all without damage
  • Made of high quality aluminum in anodized black
  • Compatible with current Intel Xeon Phi and Xeon Skylake SP processors
  • Convenient and secure overclocking like a pro!

Simply and safely overclocked to the limit like an overclocking champion!

The benchmark grandmaster Roman "der8auer" Hartung developed Delid's Mate WS 3647 for this reasonThis is exactly where it works and makes it possible for anyone to remove the heatspreader quite easily, conveniently and safely without having to accept the premature death of the CPU. The name of the processor guillotine made of sturdy, black anodized aluminum with long-lasting stainless steel elements translates freely into "silicon core cover removal friend". With it, the heatspreader can be safely removed in less than a minute by inserting the processor to be headed in accordance with the arrow mark on the CPU into the recording module of the Delid Mate WS 3647. Subsequently, a slide, which is responsible for the heads of the CPU, tightened slowly and evenly with a hexagon screw, whereby the Heatspreader is completely released and pushed by the processor.

The previously dangerous craft act becomes a harmless routine and the sensitive silicon Die and above all the other now exposed components of the CPU are guaranteed to remain intact. Extreme overclockers and anyone who wants to be, the device opens up completely new possibilities for the professional impulse of their CPUs. The problematic additional heat transfer between heatspreader and silicon is now completely eliminated and the CPU temperature is lowered as a result, which makes the CPU significantly better overclocked. Another advantage is that now a higher quality thermal compound with better conductivity can and must be chosenThe results are impressive: under load you can10 ° C to 20 ° C lower temperatures can be achieved.

A popular alternative is also the thermal interface material itself z. B. to replace with liquid metal thermal paste with significantly better thermal conductivity. Afterwards, the heatspreader can be re-attached as needed using silicone adhesive and all processor coolers can be mounted as usual. For a reliable connection between heatspreader and CPU, the third component of the Delid Mate WS 3647 is needed, which is pushed over the receiving module and exerts pressure from above in the vice process. However, it should be noted that not too much pressure is applied, otherwise the CPU could be damaged.

German Engineered Perfection - Developed by overclocking world champion der8auer

Roman "der8auer" Hartung (pronounced "the farmer") is a graduated mechatronics engineer (B.Eng.), Hardware enthusiast and professional overclocker from Germany. He has been active in the extreme overclocking scene for many years despite his comparatively tender age and has already set countless groundbreaking world records during this time. Always keen to tease out the last drop of performance from any high-end hardware, the OC grandmaster is currently (as of August 2015) taking second place in the professional "elite" ranking of the world's top overclockers (on HWBot .org). At Caseking, der8auer offers a range of exclusive OC products that allow home users to enjoy breathtaking performance, for enthusiasts and overclocking bundles or self-developed LN2 / DICE containers for liquid nitrogen or dry ice cooling.

*** Important warning! ***
Removing the CPU heatspreader is at your own risk and is always accompanied by the complete loss of the manufacturer's warranty and warranty ! When using it is important to ensure that the heatspreader is NOT soldered to the CPU, but only thermal grease was used.

Compatibility Note: Without the integrated heatspreader, the mounting height of the CPU cooler is reduced slightly, which is why those with immutable mounting height are notcan be mounted more. It is therefore essential to check before installation that the cooler to be used can also be used at a lower mounting height. If you need help, you can contact Roman "der8auer" Hartung personally via this link via e-mail .
